It may reduce background noise, but the sonic effect of using this screen isn't just isolation, it sort of deadens the sound.
I am a pro musician who dabbles in home recording. I have put it in back of 58, and the effect isn't so significant as the dynamic mic has a decent amount of isolation regardless. But with large diaphragm condenser, it seems to kill some of the high end.

I bought this thinking it will help at least a tiny bit, but I did not even reach that part, since this "sponge" if approximately of my dishwater sponge. Dissapointed. Cheap but not very useful.
