Super but not for beginners like me
Tensai 20.08.2020
I am an audiophile a cheap audiophile :) at least I regard myself as one I only have sensitive ears and enjoy others good work.

have been using JBL LSR 305 for quite some time thus decided it's time to upgrade so I ordered one Tannoy Gold 7 speaker to be followed by a 2nd one to make a pair, my source is a P.C Sound card upgraded with Sparkos Labs Class A reference Op-amps, I had my doubts after ordering regarding the bass extension so tried to withdraw the order while it was being shipped to me but Thomman team informed they cannot cancel the order before I receive it, so I received it and after 3 days of light use the speaker opened up and its true nature emerged.
Yes they are somewhat bass shy but OH my God what an Astonishing sound .
I though I bought a 2000 dollar a pair speakers , the level of detail at this price point is just unheard I can describe it almost life or live sounding like it takes you to where the sound is recorded no kidding so coherent and has no apparent borders for the projected sound, its so natural after hearing this quality JBL 305 sounds low resolution also blurry unfocused not because JBL 305 is bad no its really good and I like it but the Gold just sounds two levels above maybe only focal alpha could compete with it for money value I hate and love the Tannoy for this.

Pros & Cons
+ Large sound especially Vertical & good Horizontal.
+Natural sounding and open.
+Very detailed revealing sound ( got to thank the Coax design for this not much loss of HF info ).
+Coherent sound ( even sound dispersion again because of Coax design)
+Very Neutral and Flat.
+ very good separation of instruments.
+Accurate fast controlled bass.
+++ The looks its just fancy for a studio monitor .

Cons
_ High Hiss level if used in close range more than the JBLS its not constant it increases with volume.
-Treble is very detailed but lacks smoothness but at this price level its difficult to ask for that.
-Overpowered speakers.( a plus to some for sure if the have bigger rooms but in my small room 300 watts for a 6 inch speaker is just so much it's hard to balance volume).
-Cheap included Aux Cable ( its a nice gesture from Tannoy to include one and I am nitpicking but it is of low quality don't count on it, this monitor NEEDS good cables if you don't provide it will punish you.
-No Input sensitivity switch.( this limits their use not everybody use Balanced cables).
-NO RCA or Jack unbalanced inputs.
-somewhat bright but after HF -2db it becomes alright
_Thin bass I expected more from a 6 inch speaker but this is below par, and I blame the sharp roll-off at 100 Hz for that ,why did Tannoy decide this is beyond me.

I give this monitor a Solid 5 star rating even though I have enough complaints about it because of the sound quality at this low price what a bargain too bad it is not compatible with my setup and room so with great regret I am returning it,got to buy another 5 inch pair and a subwoofer .

a
ideal studio monitor

use these speakers in my bedroom studio. I found it very useful for my mixing and mastering works. Although there is no acoustic arrangement in my room, they do a good job. especially low mid frequencies are very successful. I can hear very clearly without disturbing high frequencies. the speakers are made of an ideal material quality, I really like the images, it's a quality product. I can say the best that can be bought in this price range. There is a fast transient response, the input level setting on the front and the knobs that you can cut and open the high frequencies are quite high quality and functional, the frequency response at -10 db is in the 46hz-20Khz range, so the low frequency response is quite satisfactory, I don't feel the need for a subwoofer. The only thing I can say negatively is that if you are working at very high dbs, you can feel the air coming out of the front port, also a certain level of limiter is activated. The amp HİSS noise is not at all annoying levels, and if you reduce the input level without having a constant noise sound, the HİSS noise will decrease.

WOOOOW

This is exactly what I was looking for for my studio, I have a pair of Focal Alpha 80 and the Tannoy Gold 7 complement them perfectly, especially in the mid-low-mid range, the Tannoy have the balls that my Focal's were missing. Honestly, I don't have the time to be so detailed in describing the pros and cons, but the only thing I can tell you is that they are very good quality speakers, even if they are the only monitors in your studio, you will have a balanced, precise and clear sound for any type of music, that is perhaps what I like the most about these Tannoys, they sound very good in all types of music.

The best of the series
Muldor 06.02.2022
Got them all three, and for nearfield this one has the best dispersion, still great bass and better HF because of the same unit as found in the 8 inch version but closer to the front. Price is ridiculous, stereo is firm and reliable, amps are good. For tracking the 8 inch has a bit more headroom, for mixing this became my favorite. Also great in the living room.

A
Wonderful Set of Monitors
A.R.F 17.01.2022
I bought this monitors a year back, during confinement so I could have a proper non-headphone monitoring solution at home. I had thought about going for the Gold 5 at the time, but since they were sold out I went for the 7s.

Results will vary according to space and placement, but I've found them to be quite good sounding, with an even response and great sound separation in stereo imaging. Being front-ported and having the dual concentric build also helps eliminate any phasing issues you might have between woofer and tweeter heights relative to listening position, which can sometimes be problematic, specially in smaller rooms.

In general, I've found them amazing not only for mixing, but also for listening to movie soundtracks and effects more closely and I would seriously recommend this to anyone looking for a good budget friendly set of monitors, or just someone wanting to improve their home listening experience.

S
Great monitors for the price
Steven6720 15.06.2020
I've been using the same monitors to mix and master for a long time, so moving to something different would take some time to get used to I thought. Moving from my conventional 2-way monitors to a dual-concentric arrangement was another risk I suppose, but I have to say it has paid off.

The Tannoy Gold 7 have been a breath of fresh air and I love the clarity of image and detail provided by the dual-concentric speakers. There's plenty of bass extension which seems smooth contributing to an overall pretty flat sound. All of this depends on what you are mixing I guess, but I am really surprised how good they sound at the price-point.

Other features are useful - having an attenuater and HF trim on the front is really useful. My monitors are positioned on the desktop on a pair of Fluid de-couplers, so they are close to the wall. I'm using the bass adjustment on the rear to accommodate this, which works perfectly. I like the standby mode as well as it saves fiddling about trying to find the on-off switch on the rear every time you want to use them. The input arrangement is nice with the facility to attach to an additional device via a stereo mini-jack as well as the normal XLR and RCA. Using this with the stereo link cable provided means you can plug-in a phone or other device and play directly through the Tannoys. The speakers have auto-signal detect, so again no fiddling about connecting stuff.

Build quality and finish is spot on. Pots on the front feel smooth and the cabinets are nicely finished. I guess some people might not like the gold effect trim, but I think it is a nice nod to the Tannoys of the past, in an up-to-date package.
