Very easy to use and no gimicky sounds
Michael8641 17.07.2019
I have used other more complicated TC Helicon products in the past but found they offered too much choice and very odd gimicky effects that I wouldnt use in a million years. I am a drummer and have expanded my role in my band to do backing vocals. This unit asisits greatly by adding extra depth and tone to my own vocals The doubling features are useful in making the backing sound like more than one person.. And depending oon the amount of effect I dial in, I can add a 'female' sounding backing which can be useful in some numbers to add an extra high note dimension. To use i during performances I have a clip-on accessories tray attached to the mic stand and I put this on the tray. It's then within easy reach for me to change setting and switch it off and on between numbers. The tempation is to turn the effect knob up high, and then it can sound artificial for the music we do. So Ive found just adding a small amount of effect works best for me. One big word of warning...because there is a volume gain control on the side - if you turn this too high it can give a really hot signal to the PA desk and feedback . It's caught out quite a few sound engineers - where the backing vocals are twice as loud as the lead vocals (who doesnt use one) . ..so now I always warn them in advance.

A
Amazing vocal pedal
Anonymous 19.01.2016
This pedal is something spectacular. What you can get from this little box at this price range it like it's free. I got it as a present for a band mate, he absolutely fell in love with it instantaneously. The results you can get from this little thing are unbelievable.

The vocals can easily sound like a professionally produced vocals and the crazy thing is that you do it on the fly and can do it LIVE. The vocalist will do it on the fly not the sound guy operating the front of house. You won't be relying on anyone else to make you sound amazing.

This pedal is very versatile, you will achieve amazing results both live and in the studio.

Live, you will be able to make you're choruses sound massive with the thick option or even the group option. Or your verses nice and cute with the octave up mode. You're live sound will start to stand out of all the other bands (if it already does stand out, you will be even a step further away from the competition :)).

In the studio this pedal also performs like a beast. If you split your signal before you hit the pedal you could save a long time by recording a dry clean vocal track and a full produced vocal track at the same time.

Could go all day long about how cool this pedal is. It's built like a tank and if you are a guitarist or bassist that use pedals, you won't struggle to incorporate this bad boy in your pedal board next to your other beauties.

My favorite tool as a singer!
Egutchi 29.11.2020
TC-HELICON VoiceTone D1 is one of my favorite tool to use as a singer. The functionalities are very interesting and for a lot of musical genres.
For example, in pop music to have simple but effective octave backs - or in more experimental styles to create layers of vocals with industrial and enveloping colors.

I use VoiceTone D1 to directly record my voice with its effects, which brings a more industrial tone (that I really enjoy) than putting some audio effects from a sound software.
But what I prefer is using it live, to create my backs directly while singing, or use it like a vocoder (with the octaver down option).

As you can guess, I highly recommend this pedal! :)

J
A nice addition to backing vocals
JosephH 28.04.2015
I use this pedal in my band which I sing backing vocals for. The "group" setting on it does add a good full sound to my vocal lines. Three of the other backing vocalists use it too and it does sound like around 8 people singing, however if you have the "wet" up past 60%, the latency can sometimes affect the timing. Other features on it like tha octave down and octave up are great too, however like the other settings once you pass a certain amount of "wet" your voice can become a bit delayed and sometimes even out of tune. However, it really has added to our sound. If you are a main vocalist and you want to have constant effects on your vocals, Id suggest paying a bit more for a better vocal pedal. For the price, it's good! But I only use it for slight effects rather than an up front explicit effect like bands such as The Knife or other techno bands. In conclusion, it's versatile and reliable, but can defect your vocal lines if you have the effect too strong.
