Instruments? Why not vocal?
CyberDNIWE 09.10.2021
Great mic, comes with necessary accesories and somehow feels solid (even though the weight is under 100g).
Tried it for voip and was plesantly surprised with how far away you can boom it (in my case it was ~40cm, but it's room-dependant).
High pass switch is great for using it within a close proximity (5-15 cm) so the voice does not sound so muddy and at this distance included pop foamie works wanders eliminating plosives.
Noise rejection is also great, almost on par with my current dynamic mic. So if your room is not well treated and you hesitate to get dynamic microphones, I strongly suggest giving this little guy a try.

EM 700 - A versatile cheap condenser
Daniel C. 84 17.06.2013
I've used this microphone on a number of different instruments and found it to be capable and versatile. I've mainly used it on electric guitar and as a drum overhead, and it performs well in both environments.

For a cheap microphone, I don't notice excessive levels of noise and don't need to run my pre-amp too hot. The sound is full and well balanced, but I wouldn't describe it as exceptional. However, for the price the sound quality is really excellent. Construction quality is really good, and the supplied holder is good at isolating the microphone from vibration.

For me, this microphone forms part of a demo kit for making recordings of my band, and it does a great job for this. I think for a proper studio recording I would recommend a more refined microphone, but for most live applications it does a good job. If you're looking to kit out a basic studio for not much money, I'd recommend it. There's not much to choose from at this price point, but I think that this microphone won't disappoint, and will allow you to conserve some money to invest properly at a later date.

Good mic.
Anonymous 27.10.2014
I bought one of these for a simple home recording of my drums.

I used it as a overhead and another mic for the bass drum.

This mic worked good, the features were good, but the settings on the mic didn't change the sound or level so much. You don't really have to change the settings.

The recorded sound were good and clear, it did not clip and the level of the raw recording was good. I think it works best in a smaller room.

The mic is light and came in a nice box, that's why i put five stars. It is good to have a box, since condensor mics are more sensitive.

Nothing has been wrong with my mic, no damage at all.

For the price it's a very good microphone.

J
allrounder with plus on the toms!
Julian801 21.02.2014
I use the EM700 in the studio and for live applications.
In the studio they are mostly mounted on all my toms. They make a very detailed sound with a lot of attack. The small powered membrane is simply faster in motion than a dynamic membrane and a big studio mic. Also for stereo acoustic guitar (near and far) i can recommend these mics. Mounted on the stereo holder they are perfect for XY stereophonic miking. Sound is very nice but depends a lot on how you place it to the guitar.
Live do i use them mostly for Piano, acoustic guitar and stereo recording of a whole room or concert hall. When recording you just leave the EQ flat and get e very nice and natural sound in XY stereo. Feedback is an issue with these kind of mics, but not as much as you would think (regarding the price) as long you don't crank up the channels.
I think the best features of these mics are the fast membrane which create nice transients and the natural sound you get when you don't use EQ much.

There are also PAD (10db and 15db) and Lo-Cut switches which makes the mic suitable for quite every application.

Recomendation! :-)

Good First Impresssion
Stuart8279 09.07.2020
For the price, I really can't have any complaints on first impressions. It's sensitive and clear, quite crisp and would work in a pinch on a wide range of uses. Like others have noted, the background noise/hiss is quite apparent when it's increased beyond a certain point, and this may be an issue when I try it out on spoken word applications where I would want it to be a certain distance from my voice. I also intend to try it on acoustic guitar and guitar cabs - I suspect that it will probably cope with them both fine though.

Overall, a good budget pencil condenser, and one which would work as a decent allrounder.

Cheap and fair!
Katharina L. 14.02.2014
I bought this microphone to record my steel string guitar using the Behringer Xenyx 302 USB (using its phantom power), an IRig and Garage Band on the IPad and I am really surprised how well this works. It gives a clear acoustic guitar sound without background noise. So the directional characteristic of the Microphone is really good. Only when you stop playing you can hear yourself moving on your chair. But that's something every microphone will record and is easily avoidable by simply not moving until the recording finished or by just cutting the unwanted noise at the end of the recording.

I like the sound very much and i think it is way better than using the cheap pickup system integrated in my guitar.

Cheap and decent, nothing more, nothing less...
fommof 15.01.2019
I bought one of these long time ago for my home recording project.

I used it mostly with acoustic instruments (acoustic guitar, classical guitar) with good but not impressive results which was expected since first of all it's a cheap small diaph. cond. mic and then I never had the super duper preamps to use them with it.

If you are on a budget and you must buy a small condenser mic then go for it. If you need the ultimate condenser (which means you already have a more than decent preamp) then look away.

For the price is more than OK.

Incredible price
Anonymous 24.09.2016
For the price, this microphone is an awesome addition to my mic collection. I'd say it sounds semi-professional. So far I have used it to record acoustic guitar but I think it will be good on a tom or hi-hat.

The switches are a bit tacky, but it's nothing major.

So good I'm buying a second so I can stereo pair!

A great mic for ride cymbal
Alex1234 24.03.2021
I use it to get more definition on a ride cymbal. It sounds great - clear and crisp, and the characteristics fits very well for this in a bigger type drum kit setup. Also the price is incredibly low for this kind of quality.

bargain microphone
spookydirt 18.03.2017
for the price this is very good value, I've just recorded some mandolin & octave mandola with this mic, and they've both come out of it really well.

the mini shock-mount is very handy, as is the optional high-pass rumble filter switch, which I wouldn't expect to find on such inexpensive equipment.

it's not as good sound quality as a large diaphragm condenser mic,not quite as clear in sound quality, so I probably wouldn't use this for vocals, but it doesn't take up nearly so much room, so is handy for recording acoustic guitar, mandolin, etc without getting in the way.

if I broke this, I'd buy another one, because it's a handy mic to have about.
