i am brand new to gong bashing. i have bashed drums and cymbals for Blackpool Donkey's (a long time). You have to respect large round metal things and a nice mallet is a good place to start. I would say this one seems worth the money. Nice weight, well padded with fleecy stuff, with a large metal thing you need to launch your shoulder into the arc and be aware of the weight of the metal the mallet, yourself and your audiences ear-drums (you can easily find Rank Organisation demo's) A drummers stick is an interface like a pen to a poet.

It is basically a good mallet but...

It is basically a good mallet at a reasonable price, but when using it I occasionally would get an unwanted harsh sound when striking the gong. I could not understand what was wrong until I deconstructed it and discovered that the felt seam under the top cover had split and meaning there was less padding at that point on the mallet. I repaired the seam and it is now producing a reliable and predictable sound. It is a good weight and feels good in the hand.

the shape of the percussion head is at an angle of 90 and when playing you have to be careful to hit the surface otherwise it doesn't have a nice sound

Probably slightly big for my 28” gong but its weighty and gets a nice big sound.
