On occasion I use this chair with a keyboard or the like, but I mostly use it as a replacement office chair, or for some small jobs in the studio.
I’ve had the chair for about 9 months now, and while it does its job and it is, for now mostly ok, but I can’t recommend it.
It already started when I got the first copy I owned. The piano bench arrives as a flat pack that you have to install yourself, Swedish furniture style. It’s not that difficult, but the intstructions are not always super clear. After a while it was clear to me that I wasn’t mis-installing something, but that the piece of wood really weren’t aligning properly. There were spaces of up to half a centimeter between some of the boards that were supposed to lock the legs in place. Needless to say, this didn’t feel very sturdy.
I sent it back to Thomann, and they sent me a replacement. Alas, the alignment of the boards on this second copy is also far from perfect, still a mm or two here and there. So the previous one was not a fluke, this is just the standard of this chair. But it now was workable. The bench also came with some of the washers missing, and I had to provide them. In nine months one of the felt soles of the legs already needed to be reglued.
That being said, it does work for now, even though I don’t use it that much. Some of the bolts needs some re-tighting occasionally, but that’s it. The lift mechanism of the chair works well though. The inner seat lays loose in the seat frame. I would liked to have it attached a bit more sturdy.
All in all, an adequate seat, but I doubt if it will last me long, and I will not use it for anything serious.
The second copy arrived when I really needed the chair and afterwards I worked abroad for a while so I missed my window in sending it back. Otherwisse I would have done it, but I didn’t have a lot of confidence this 3rd copy would have been any better, and maybe even worse. So I kept it, as a spare and found another solution for my main office chair. I would not trust this for everyday work.
