I ordered a large Himalayan singing bowl from Thomann as I live far away from anywhere and they had a sound byte online, and this bowl’s resonance really appealed to me. It is a large bowl G (96hz) with a long deep resonance that I really enjoy for helping me to ground as I follow the sound.

The sound is full bodied yet lighter and somehow freeing, as if inviting the soul to dance and follow along. I feel happy hearing this sound and comforted and safe following this bowl sound down deep into my grounding, yet travelling lightly through the experience.

I have been using this bowl which despite its size is light enough and people have found it incredibly powerful with on the body treatments. Most of them have gone into deep meditation/sleep state as soon as this bowl is rimmed on the body and have found it a very comforting and enveloping space that is super enjoyable.

In order to achieve the deepest sound possible from this bowl, which does have high tones embedded in the sound, I actually strike using my smaller gong mallet rather than the bowl mallet. This is very effective.

But on purchasing, I would have liked it if Thomann could give an indication of the note of the bowls they offer as this would help provide a guide for use as therapy bowls. I was actually hoping for a deep C bowl, but I am nevertheless very happy with my G(2) bowl.

Sound not as low as the sample on the website
R-Win! 09.11.2018
I picked this bowl because of the beautiful, low sound. It's the lowest (I could find) at Thomann.
But when delivered The sound wasn't nearly as low! Not the beautiful 76Hz from the sample, but a bit less than 100Hz! Quite a difference! On top of that, it has more dominant (high) overtones, making it sound more ringing like a bell, instead of the pure hummm from the sample. Even with a softer mallet (not included).
Because of the sound, I decided to return it. It's not bad and sustains quite long (soft though), but it's not what I'm looking for.

Another point of critique: Very annoying that even for this price I can't choose my own cushion! A bowl like this will be displayed somewhere, so the looks also count! I can imagine it's difficult to offer choice for a 15 euro bowl, but for 169???

I
It's a gamble
Inamorta 08.07.2019
I think that this singing bowl is good for people who don't already own singing bowls. I wouldn't recommend buying a bowl without testing it first, unless the buyer does not care about the sound. The bowl looks nice and is of good quality. The sound, however, is comparably shallow. When struck it gives a nice tone, but when rubbed (to create the singing tone) it disappointed me. I sent it back to Thomann (thanks for making the return so easy!)

Recommended for: People who just want any bowl and do not care about the sound.

Not recommended for: People who want a specific sound / quality. Better to check it out in person and pick a bowl that is perfect for you. In that case don't fall for the marketing tricks that tell you about 7 metals or "antique" bowls, or bowls hammered during moonlight. Those are marketing strategies and not facts. At least Thomann is very honest about this and doesn't market their bowls as some magic item.

Nice bowl, needs a bigger (softer) mallet for the real potential.
The one i got could be better fabricated though (finishing touch) and thanks to the great service from Thomann able to send the bowl return. the sound is good for this price.

Amazing sustain and rubs really well

I can't believe how long the sustain is on this bowl and how easy it is to get singing when you rub it. Highly recommended.

Good sound - clip not representative
Marcus-J 19.03.2024
I got this bowl to sit acoustically between a Thomann 2kg and 4Kg bowl - a job it does very well.

The website sound clip I estimate as a D2/A2, though the bowl I recieved was a much higher G2 though the frequency is right on the money. It has a satifyingly full and confident mid-bass tone and good sustain.

I see a lot of reviews mentioning the difference of the sound clip to thier received bowls, but I think this is to be expected. I would suggest buying multiple bowls and returning any that dont meet with your expectations for your money back.

If you want to ensure a low frequency sound like the clip - I would recommend the 3Kg Thomann bowls (Check my other review!)
