Works as happy cable router as well
Liukke 28.02.2022
Didn't use it for installing XLR connectors, I just have 8 cables that from the bottom rack need to reach the top one and they all have their pass-through slot.

It makes my rack look much cleaner now.

K
Thick metal, sturdy panel
KRNFL69WR 22.08.2019
This panel is made of pretty much thick metal - it's enough, so it won't flex, or move.

Bought it for a bit different purpose than mounting in a rack - I've made a "patch panel" for a pedalboard from it. Paired it with neutrik lockable connectors. This also helped to get rid of some cable clutter across pedalboard, connecting your in and out, fx loop send and return, and sometimes trigger signals to act as a footswitch for the amp. Put a PowerCON connector there too, so setting up would take less time.

Does the job
Anonymous 21.02.2015
It's a good panel, it fits perfectly to the rack and takes the connectors very well too. A couple of niggles though ( and they are just niggles), there is a very slight flex in the panel when connecting stuff, mostly the middle sockets and it is very slight but there all the same, so not too sure how that will hold up over time. The other is depending on your ocd levels, it doesn't bother me but l did notice it , is that the two fixing holes for the screws are fractionally and l do mean factionally out so the sockets are pulling clockwise by a hair when fixed. Personally for the price l think this is a great panel and if the flexing doesn't become an issue six months down the line l'll happily come back and upgrade to five stars.

Good XLR rack panel for light or occasional use, if you can live with some flex
LutherD 07.09.2024
I use this XLR rack panel for an amp rack. Soldered 4 Neutrik XLR (1 panel) and 4 speakon (2nd panel) connectors in it, left the others empty (spaced 2 apart) to keep some air flow going.

The XLR and speakon tolerances are fine and my neutrik female XLR and Speakon connectors fit quite well.

However, the panel has some flex to it. especially in the middle. I use this with 2 amp racks that are mostly for installation work, so connectors only occasionally need to be reconnected, for this kind of use this is fine. I can be careful when connecting or disconnecting cables.

If I was making a rack case for daily use, I would want something sturdier, that wouldn't flex. I would not trust this for the hard life on the road.

Not robust...
E H. 23.11.2015
It arrived already bent & twisted in the box, i was surprised that I could straighten it back into a useable shape by hand (yes, the metal is that flimsy!)... I'm not going to bother wiring it up as it won't survive long on the road in my job. May be ok for gentle home studio use I guess. First really bad item I've bought in years but since it's a cheapie, I'll just bin it... I've got steel versions of these elsewhere in the past that feel like they are 10x times stronger. Biggest annoyance is that I've wasted a week waiting for this. Avoid!

Used it on a couple of racks with positive results. Does what its suppose to do, metal seems of good quality and the paint is still spott on. Also, cheaper than the equivalent from other known brands.

Good mount

For the price I can't complain at all. If I cared about the D-Series connectors being perfectly aligned I would have paid more money for something else or bought a pre-made patchbay instead. This is just more cost effective!

Great construction

Brilliant build quality, just a little annoying it doesn't come with any screws as they don't come with any of the adapter fittings either. Make sure to get these as well!

Thon Rack Panel 1U 8XLR
James007 11.06.2013
Simple well made rack panel. It's pretty sturdy and well finished. The pre drilled holes were accurately done so fitting was easy. These can be really handy as a break out on a rack case for monitor sends instead of having to get under the mixer and read the sockets. I use mine for the Speaker master out sockets as getting to the underside of my mixer in the rack is quite tough - so this makes it a lot quicker. It'll work with any standard socket - XLR, Jack, Speakon etc.

Good, sturdy panel
MyNicknameMustBeAtLeastFiveCharactersLong 31.08.2021
Thon is good company, producing nicely priced gear of good quality.
This panel makes no exception from this rule.

I removed one star, because the screw holes are drilled slightly off the axis. That makes all sockets slightly "skewed" (not perpendicular to the panel). And that hurts visually.
They go more / / / / than | | | |.
(that was graphical representation of my above sentence)

Other than that - very good, robust product.
