My dream amp without fighting the neighbours
Draghiem 29.06.2021
It tooks me lot of time to be able to buy my dream amp.

The thing is that cranck that precious at home is impossible without a power soak.

The one big question is : witch one ?
- The high end one cost more than 1000 euros
- The inexpensive one cost less than 100 euros, but i was quite hesitant to have wait and spend so much money on my amp head to finally put some cheap gear on it (even it might be good for their prices)

So, i decided to go for this one, at "middle" price range and i am very happy of it.

The main pro are:
- Sounds quality when you use it. Of course, i can't compete the amp without it. But still very good
- The 2d very good point is the ability to use it as load box (without a speaker) but warning, you have to set the power soak manually on it.

Still, it's definitively not perfect:
- First, the impedance is fixed: if you want 8 and 16 ohms, you have to buy two version of it. If you plan to do so, a high end power soak witch is able to do both with better sound might be a better option
- Secondly, the F.A.N.T.A. -out speaker emulation date from 2004 (!) and feels actually outdated. If your main goal is to use as an audio interface, i suggest you look first at other model
- Finaly, the "bite" and "punch" knobs are only functionnal when the power soak is set from full to -14 db. If you use it at -16 db just like me, those knobs won't works.

Conclusion:
- Works actually good with a nice sounds
- Load box possible
- Outdated technology

I
quiet please!! (halte de clappa!)
IanR 30.05.2013
a great piece of kit. yes it does alter the sound a little, and the sounds are not QUITE as good as your amp totally unmasked. i have a cornford mk50 ii and it sounds phenominal by itself. however, we don't buy these attenuator chappies to IMPROVE our sound, but rather to give us an acceptable compromise at lower volumes, which this unit does admirably. yes it's expensive, .. yes to me it's worth it. the switch in ' replace what you've lost' idea is great, i would've loved the actual switchable db increments to be a little quieter like it's rival the palmer has. .. but this unit has the added bonus of 'whisper quiet' on it's final dial, and also speaker emulator/simulator for silent recording. .. again the sounds are very different to the natural sound of the amp,.. but i still quite like those emulated sounds, and unlike any digital stuff on the market, this still enables your amp to RESPOND. so all in all it's not perfect, but it's a real asset that won't get you arrested by the noise police at 9.30pm on low, or 1 am on silent lol! i'm extremely pleased hence my star rating. great build quality, a couple of slightly 'sturdier' switches would've been great,..a final word of caution, my buddy has a EVH head with 8 pre amp (yes 8 !!!) tubes.. i would NOT recommend this for anything sooo rediculous in power. but for anything up to 50w ..maybe 100, then you will not be disappointed. .. if you can't afford this one, then the palmer is the only other worthy contender..and both are available on thomman .. so get the correct ohm rating and enjoy your amp's response at much lower levels . ;-) ian

The Answer You Were Looking For
Tube8 03.04.2019
I have just unpack my TAD and play with it for ten minutes. I definitely think this would be the answer to all the volume' problems you could have with tube amps.

I have a wonderful handmade 50w tube head, a sort of Pexi/Jcm800, and it sounds amazing, but only when you reach a minimum voulme, which could be too much in some stages and pubs.

So this will really let you set your favourite tube amp to high volumes, without losing or compromise your tone, thanks to the Bite and Punch controls, that help you adjust some frequencies that your ear believes you lost.

The controls are intuitive, the box is solid.
Very Good product!

Great attenuator for decent price
Silver_Fox 01.03.2021
I used this in combination with my Marshall Silver Jubilee Studio version (20W).
Now I can really use the tone and tubes of the amp but on bedroom levels. The fine knob is really good and with the switches on high you can compensate for the tone loss. On all the other settings this is not really necessary. It definitely helped me to get more out of my set-up without destroying my hearing. A really good alternative for the high end attenuators.

Makes your Amp Bedroom friendly.
BillieJean 24.09.2017
You can make the sound of your electric guitar (fender strat. in my case ) sound louder than your amp(blues Junior) while the volume and gain is at 12 with this attenuator. But for a neighbor friendly volume , you still maintain the characteristics of your amp when its cranked but at lower volumes. I did not compare it with other attenuators but this one works fine.

Exactly what I needed
PE Toulouse 23.04.2021
I bought the Bugera PS1 first - was disappointed: volume reduction even if set on "100", modification of sound when turning down..
This Silencer is exactly what I wanted: Full volume when set on "full", no sound modification when reducing volume. It has its price, but good stuff is not always for free.
I made only one test with the FANTA direct output. The sound is not the same as on my Tweed Deluxe clone - a bit more lower frequencies, but I found it useful anyway.

Good enough.
Brusart 30.01.2020
It works just fine for this rare occasions you need to attenuate your amp. If your looking to use it constantly and tone is a big deal to you (it should!) then I would recommend the Tone King Iron Man Mini II. The TAD is very well built and will service a decent job, but not for constant use. The cab simulation is not very good.

This thing just do the job. If you want to play your big tube amp (120 wats MESA Road King in my case) when your baby sleep next door, this is a box for you. Good tube sound with lot of punch but in volume your neighbors stay friendly to you in the morning.

Does exactly what it's supposed to be doing.
When it gets too hot , a little fan starts turning to help it cool it down.

Its pretty big but does the job.. There is some tone loss as you mak it work harder, but they added some options(bite and punch) that can help you recover that if needed.

The direct out is very useful. I use it all the time when i'm recording and works fine!
