Run and gun
The Zoom F1-SP, an extremely lightweight and ultra-compact field recorder equipped with an SGH-6 shotgun microphone, is eminently suited to the requirements of mobile creators such as podcasters, videographers, bloggers, vloggers, and journalists. For run-and-gun video production, the F1-SP can be easily mounted on top of a DSLR or video camera using the shock mount that is included in the scope of delivery. What is more, this recorder is perfectly compatible with all types of Zoom microphone capsules, allowing users to fit an omnidirectional capsule from a different Zoom recorder model instead of the shotgun mic, for example. An F1-LP variant of the F1 is also available, which includes a lavalier microphone and, of course, the proprietary 10-pin connection for compatibility with all of Zoom’s interchangeable mic capsules.
Sophisticated features
The Zoom F1-SP delivers high-resolution audio with up to 24bit/96kHz as well as various MP3 formats that can be directly recorded to a microSD or microSDHC card (not included) with up to 32GB capacity. A host of practical features are included, such as the Rec-Hold function that prevents keys from being accidentally pressed during recording, the Pre-Rec function that captures audio signals up to two seconds before recording starts, an 80Hz high-pass filter that effectively attenuates impact noise and other unwanted low-frequency sound (wind/handling noise), and a built-in switchable limiter with automatic input level control for preventing overmodulation. In addition to the 10-pin connector at the top, the F1 features two screw-lock sockets in mini-jack format at the bottom: An input for line-level or microphone signals (from a different microphone such as a lavalier mic) and an output (with dedicated volume control) for connecting headphones or a camera.
... and action!
The Zoom F1-SP, which has been specifically designed for mobile creators, will come into its own especially during run-and-gun video production and pure audio recording thanks to its sophisticated features, such as the tone generator that calibrates the audio levels between the recorder and a DSLR or video camera (without an additional attenuator cable) and the sound marker function that allows audio and video to be easily synced by emitting short tone signals. The F1-SP field recorder can be operated for up to ten hours on just two standard AAA batteries (rechargeable batteries can also be used) or using the Zoom AD-17 power adapter (available separately) via the USB port, which in turn can also be used for fast and easy data transfer to and from a computer.
About Zoom
Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.
Lightweight and versatile design
The class-compliant Zoom F1-SP can also be used as an interface for a PC or Mac in conjunction with a micro USB cable (not included). This versatile field recorder is not only the ideal hand-held or shotgun microphone solution for capturing high-quality audio for video production outside of a studio environment, it will also come in useful for quick recordings in a rehearsal room if combined with a different capsule. The F1 features a newly designed monochromatic display that provides information about levels, battery life, lo-cut settings, etc., and ensures visibility even in bright sunlight. Thanks to its weight of just 120 grams without batteries and shotgun mic, the compact F1 field recorder can be taken just about everywhere to capture professional-quality audio in an instant.
