Perfect for recording dialogues from distance
I am using SGH-6 Shotgun Mic Capsule with Zoom Q8 to record video trainings and therapy sessions, and I find this set much better than any other solution I have tried earlier (2 generations of Sony cameras - last one I am using same time is Sony HDR PJ810 with external mic on top), and it is the first set what satisfies my needs.
Zoom offers an option to monitor input sound level and quality (good during trainings and group sessions) and adjust gain on fly. SGH is good even if I record sessions from 4-5 meters with fan humming on ceiling right above the cam.
Of course it isnt the sound you can record with button mic, but earlier problem that you cant hear what people are talking about is not problem any more, specially if I use low pass filter.
The only problem is the strenght - sensitivity. If I have to move tripod or touch cam during session even with fingertips it gives really bad scratching on recording... But yeah... I can buy also external mic if I need to move tripod during sessions :)

fantastic addition
Great to have a uni-directional mic. option. Fantastic response at close to mid-range (1-2 metres) - very little side bleed. Quality and frequency range of sound superb, as with most zoom mic capsules. Above 2 metres it is still quite directional, but does pick up more side sound, as you would expect from this size of shotgun. Absolutely spot on for use with a DSLR set-up and recording narrative - used with a hot shoe adaptor with a Zoom H 5. Also used in the field for solitary sound recording and again perfect for picking out specific sounds at a close to mid-range. Included windshield an essential for me living in Cornwall, but it does a good job in significantly reducing wind noise. Would highly recommend,

I am very satisfied with my ZOOM H6. This device is really profi. Unfortunately, with the shotgun SGH-6 everything is perfect, except of its noise. Compared with XY mic head the shotgun produces really noticeable noise. So, you cannot use it for recording of e.g. birds. In my opinion, it suits only for recording of a speech on a distance of 1 m, not more.

decent shotgun, but limited
Zoom H6 is super versatile device, but this shotgun mic has its limits. It is decent quality shotgun, but cannot compare to industry standards. Bear in mind this is extension for portable recorder, so quality for the buck is perfectly balanced.

Great little mic capsule
Rather surprised by the quality and pickup pattern by this little mic. Pairs well with Zoom F1.

Noisier than the XY capsule
It's a good shotgun! But when used in direct succession to the XY capsule i noticed that it's a bit noisier.
