Du brut, pas du brutal
K rider 10.02.2019

One of the Best Sounding Rides I've ever Played
Jeyk 08.10.2020
Ok, so I'm gonna start off by saying that I would give this one 6 stars if it were possible. I have bought plenty of Zultan cymbals (and other brands) over the past couple of years and given most of them 5-star ratings on here, yet this one's a step or two above the rest. It's definitely the best sounding 20" ride I've ever played.

Firstly about the weight: this is a very thin cymbal. The one I got weighs only 1750 grams so it's bordering on paper thin. I also have the 22" version which I would actually categorize as a fairly sturdy medium thin as it weighs 2560 grams. I've noticed that this is actually pretty common with Zultan's thinner/jazzier rides - in the Dune series the 22" version also seems to be a weight class or two heavier than the 20" equivalent.

About the sound: despite the low weight this ride has a very nice stick definition that is in perfect balance with a beautiful wash. The sound character is dark and warm and just absolutely perfect to me. Obviously it's very responsive to accents as well due to the low weight and the crash sound is full but controlled. The bell sounds nice but isn't probably cutting enough for louder styles - this is not a negative thing but something to keep in mind anyway.

I cannot stress this enough: this cymbal sounds MUCH better than the sound samples on this site would suggest. Usually the Thomann samples are good for crashes and hats, but for some reason the recordings make even the most delicate rides sounds kinda harsh and brutal, at least to me.

As for the quality, my 20" is not quite as well made and aesthetically pleasing as my 22", but it doesn't matter to me at all. I bought it for the sound first and foremost and it has exceeded all my expectations. Provided this doesn't crack unexpectedly, the quality is good enough.

Conclusion: if you're looking for a beautiful light jazz ride, buy this one! If you're looking for a dark, dry, and jazzy ride for backbeat applications and amplified music, get the 22" version instead as it is slightly heavier and has even more stick definition + a more cutting bell. Or better yet, get them both like I did!

Genial
