AKG K-701 Ear Pad GR

The ears cushions on my old AKG K-701 needed replacing so I got these. Being original AKG parts I expected them to be a perfect fit and they were.

They were slightly harder to install on my headphones than the old ones I was replacing . I suspect that's just because the old ones have shaped themselves after the headphones. The old ones were actually getting a bit TOO loose. The new ones were a perfect fit once installed. The whole process took no more than 1-2 minutes even if it was a bit fiddly.

But be aware that changing the ear pads won't help much if the elastic band is also sagging. And replacing that elastic band is a complicated process that involves prying open layer upon layer of very brittle plastic parts (and also good luck getting the necessary replacement elastic band from AKG...).

In my experience the elastic band in a K-701 will wear out before the ear pads. Making the ear pads a rather poor investment unless you are confident you can also replace the elastic band. And the elastic band is constructed in a way that risks breaking you headphones when trying to replace it.

Sadly the K-701 is more or less designed to mechanically wear out after a couple of years (unless you can fix the elastic band). Planned obsolesence at it's worst.

The quality of these ear pads is great though.

I ordered these pads at the same time as my AKG 701s as a backup to extend the life of the headphones. These are the most comfortable headphone ear pads I have ever worn and are great over lengthy listening sessions, so it is great to know that I can have this experience for years to come.
As you would expect from AKG, the pads are of the highest quality and are designed very well to produce a comfortable fit. This is achieved by the velour covering, the padding and in particular the tapered thickness which makes for a good fit over the ears. The aperture is wide enough to fit over the ears comfortably.
Fitting is very easy as a small rotation is all that is needed to take them off and replace.
