The Behringer WASP Deluxe is a monophonic desktop synthesizer in a Eurorack design and features an authentic reproduction of the circuitry (including the matched transistors and JFETs) of the 1978 synthesizer model of the same name, whose distinct, dirty sound was appreciated within the New Wave movement and used by artists such as the Eurythmics, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vince Clarke, and Nick Rhodes. The Behringer WASP Deluxe has a fully analogue signal path, except for the digital oscillators. It is equipped with both MIDI connections and a USB port, and can also process external sound sources via the dedicated input.
The digital dual oscillator can convert sawtooth and pulse waves, with the width of the pulse wave adjustable to up to 50%. It is also possible to change the pitch of the dual oscillator as well as the frequency via the control section. Additionally, noise can be fed into the sound source. There are four different modes to choose from for the resonant analogue multimode filter: Low-Pass, High-Pass, Band-Pass, and Notch. The Q factor can also be set here. The envelope has three parameters: Attack, Decay, and Sustain. Turning the Sustain control to its left end-stop allows a repeat function to be implemented. Additionally, the envelope curve can be sustained here using the dedicated switch. There are six waveforms that can be implemented by the LFO: Sine, Triangle, Triangle-Inverted, Pulse, Noise, and Random. The LFO has its own control envelope with Attack, Decay, and Delay settings as well as a repeat function.
An external audio signal can be fed into the Behringer WASP Deluxe using the 3.5mm jack connection. Drum machines, vocals, and guitars can be edited via an internal filter and envelope, providing them with additional internal modulations. The poly chain function facilitates the linking of up to 16 synthesizers, and both oscillators feature 3.5mm jack outputs to allow further processing to take place using external modules. An external volume control for the headphone output is also located on the front panel, so you can control your own monitoring volume independent of the main output.
The company, which was founded in Germany by Uli Behringer and now manufactures its products in China, has been known for affordable and great-value equipment since its very first product, the Studio Exciter F. An array of mixing consoles (such as the Eurodesk MX8000), signal processors, and later sound amplification and monitoring equipment, has made it possible for countless musicians to fit out their home studios, practice rooms, and mobile PAs within budget limits that were previously unthinkable. The acquisition of other companies, including Midas, Klark Teknik, and TC Electronic, meant that new product groups were added - and also resulted in the technical expertise of these companies being incorporated into product development.
The Behringer WASP Deluxe offers astonishingly rich sounds and user-friendly operation. Progressive Rock, Wave, or Synthpop - the WASP Deluxe will capably handle all kinds of music production across numerous different genres. With the WASP's 29 controls, you have direct access to all of the synthesiser's functions. To create truly remarkable modulation effects, you can use the pitch control of the first oscillator, which can be adjusted against the pitch of the second oscillator. Want to add some spice to the musical mix? It is also possible to enhance your project with unique sounds using the Freq control and the Q filter setting. Thanks to the envelopes' refined adjustment options, both snappy Techno sounds with short notes and long atmospheric timbres can be created.
