The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is a successful addition to the range of digital film cameras from Blackmagic Design. As with the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, the heart of the camera is a Super 35 sensor with a dynamic range of 13 f-stops, which can record up to 120 frames per second in Blackmagic Raw mode. Also on board is the EF lens mount (Canon). This makes the camera compatible with a wide range of professional lenses for film and photo. The display on the 6K Pro can be tilted and shines with up to 1500-nits brightness. Those who want to film in bright sunshine with an open aperture don't need to bring an arsenal of ND filters to the shoot, as these are already integrated into the camera with 2/4/6 stops. Two mini-XLR inputs are now also included.
Professional cameras record material with low contrast and flat colours. While this allows for extensive intervention in post-production, it makes it difficult to control during filming. The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K also follows this pattern, but holds an ace up its sleeve, because it already shows the result during the recording with a colour grading LUT. This creates certainty and enables targeted creative decisions on set. LUTs can be applied to monitoring only or recorded as Blackmagic RAW files for post-production. The display is impressive across the entire spectrum and discreetly shows false colours, focus peaking, histogram, microphone level and much more on request. To ensure that all these professional functions can be used for longer periods at a time, the 6K Pro model uses the powerful rechargeable batteries of the NP-F570 series.
Blackmagic literally redefined the target market with the introduction of the Pocket Cinema cameras. Even the very first version shook up the market. Since then, features, image quality, user-friendliness and price have been incorporated into a budget-friendly package. That is why they are recommended for ambitious content creators and influencers as well as for independent filmmakers. With the camera, projects and equipment can be scaled wonderfully. Should the requirements ever become greater in scope, microphone inputs, a full-size HDMI output and USB-C connection are available. This means that both the film crew and the operation and functionality of the camera can grow together. The full version of DaVinci Resolve is also included in the scope of delivery. DaVinci Resolve is a video editing programme that is at home in the world's largest studios.
Founded in 2001, the Australian company Blackmagic Design is one of the world's leading pioneers and manufacturers of creative video technology. Known for its outstanding codecs, Blackmagic offers professional technology at affordable prices. The manufacturer demonstrated this in 2002 with the release of the DeckLink capture card. This enabled the editing of uncompressed 10-bit video material on a Macintosh OS X system. The products of the ATEM Live series are used in major productions worldwide. Grant Petty, founder and CEO of the company, describes the guiding principle of his company itself as follows: "Blackmagic Design strives to make video of the highest quality affordable to everyone so that production and television can become a truly creative industry."
The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K can be used for short films, product videos, image films, TV documentaries, advertising videos and even cinema films. The simple operation of the camera in combination with the large screen is not only advantageous for solo filmers. If required, it can be used to put together a small or large camera rig. Typical extensions include a follow focus, a lens hood, a shotgun microphone, a monitor or even an external recorder. Day-to-day production work underlines how important it is to be flexible - so that you're able to record an interview on location one day and switch to the studio for a music video shoot the next. A particular highlight is that the connections, film formats, codecs and files conform to the industry standards of the big studios, thus ensuring that the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K is always compatible.
