dependable

I've been using these picks (or the Fender counterpart) for the past 10 years and it's a dependable pick. Initially I started off with the green one and then tried all of them out (from thinnest to this one), and I've settled for the 1.14mm because it's durable and because, apparently, I like rigid picks. The light ones have always irritated me because they bend against the strings.

I usually play them flipped to the side (with the pointy side towards the bridge) and very slightly angled, which gives a nice dark tone and the pick doesn't get 'stuck' in the strings. It also makes pinch harmonics easier for me.

I've used them successfully for shredding on an electric as well as on acoustic guitars. They work great for complicated strumming/picking and they are very durable in the face of heavy acoustic guitar strings.

They do tend to slip off every now and then from between your fingers, especially if you're a bit sweaty, but not too much. I don't think I've dropped one while playing sober in the past 7 years or so.

Overall, this is a very dependable pick.

It's the Details that Matter
StoningRolls 04.01.2022
For many players, a pick is a pick is a pick. Nothing special about them, they more or less all do the same job, right?

It's only when you play with something like the Tortex that you realize how small details make the difference.

The grip is just perfect: sturdy, firm, but with pleasant texture on your skin. It really improves playing, no question about it. The thickness is a matter of preference (and style), but to me these seem to hit the sweet spot.

Highly recommended!

i've tried so many picks
Diablo 20.01.2020
I have tried so many guitar picks that I don't remember them all either, but I know that I have never felt so good as with Tortex.
Obviously the choice of the pick is a matter of personal taste, however there are characteristics such as resistance to use that are good for everyone.
The last picks that I have abused of are the Ibanez Paul Gilbert, which, however, have always worn out too quickly. In these picks I found the same handling, a little less peak (but very little) and a significantly longer duration. I highly recommend them for those who use alternating picking on electric guitar a lot, and also for acoustic guitar they give satisfaction, even if in that case there are different choices also depending on the type of timbre you want to get

Flexibility:

Thickness (1.14mm) and material of the picks grant them a high stiffness, but do not make them inflexible.

Grip:
The sides are slightly coarse giving them some grip for starters, which can but doesn't have to be enhanced by further sanding, unless you are playing longer gigs or sweat a lot.

Tip:
The pointed ("sharp") tip allows for high precision runs.

Size:
With a size of about 1.14" (=29mm) from bottom to tip, the picks aren't small, but unless you prefer mini-picks you will be fine.

Tone:
As the "tone" section is often rather a "voodoo"-section I'd like to limit my review to the statement, that flexibility/sharpness/hardness allow "tight" pick-attack.

Recommendation:
Recommended to try for everyone who's not into fat or mini picks. Price is fair.

Exactly what I was looking for
stobbsyboy 07.11.2018
Been wanting to try purple tortex ever since I found out a couple years ago that's what Slash uses - took a little bit to get used to them, but the attack and the tone was there that I had been looking for - I had been using slightly thicker nylon picks that were close enough, but the tortex were just right on the money, even started using them on bass almost as quickly and I haven't even touched any other picks

Grippy and steady even for the clumsiest of players
Gotza 28.09.2022
I've never had a very good grip. I mostly play finger style so I haven't had the chance to practice enough with picks. As a result I constantly find myself looking for an extra pick in the middle of a song. But not with this one. After trying a million others and right when i swore myself off playing with a pick ever again luckily I found Tortex 1,14. And they make me sound like I know what I'm doing both in guitar and bass. So, thank you Dunlop, keep it up.

Good quality, heavy gauge plectrum
eamonlaser 21.10.2019
I always use these so very happy to find them on Thomann website. They are a heavy gauge, so last well, but some might find them too heavy/hard to use. I play bass, and when I use a pick I like to dig in, and prefer a pick without any give, so these are perfect for me.
