Snappier attack, and more comfort for playing faster tempos
Benjamin I. 26.03.2019
The only sharp picks I had ever played were made of undescript materials that looked like nylon but I'm not sure what they were. Anyway, they weren't very rigid despite the strong thickness, and the grip wasn't too great either so I forgot about them and played teardrop picks only for years.

However I started feeling guilty for not doing a real comparison between teardrop and sharp picks of the best material I know: Ultex. Having the 0.60, 0.73 and 1.0 teardrops, I ordered the thicknesses I didn't have, the 0.90 and the 1.14.

I planned to change the point into a teardrop if I didn't like it, with sandpaper it's quickly done. But I won't be doing the change because now I like the sharp picks a lot more. First the point touches the string for a briefer time so I can play faster tempos cleaner and easier.

They also make less pick noise, just mute the strings with your left hand, and pick them, the difference is clear. Watching them with a loupe, some picks have a slightly asymmetrical tip, but a few touches with superfine sandpaper rectifies them, and then they seem to glide over the string with a smoother sensation.

The attack is sharper and that's so much better when I play metal tones. The snappier attack is also nicer to my ears when I play electric clean or acoustic.

I think I prefer the 1.14 a little bit but the 0.90 is already a neat improvement over the rounded picks, I'll keep a few but I don't think I'll play them again, will probably give them away to a friend

Great note clarity!
DutchThrasher 08.06.2019
I love the ultex picks from Dunlop.
I've used Tortex picks for years, so that's what i'll compare this one too.

In comparison to the Tortex picks, these ones feel stiffer, which is great for more resonance and note clarity.
The thing I noticed right away is that these picks sound brighter, add more volume, and notes sound more defined.
They are also more durable and last longer before you can throw them out.
However I've recently preferred the Jazz III XL model, these are still great.

The only downside is that these don't grip as well as Tortex. If you have sweaty hands these will slip out of your fingers more easily.
But ofcourse you can solve that by scruffing them up with a nail file or something.

Very hard material. You can use 0.9 mm ultex pick instead of 1.0mm tortex :)

All good except ..

the color. Which is designed so you loose more picks and order more. Which you will as these are precise, snappy, give you great picking flexibility and are easy to hold. So a nice little earner for Dunlop. My Dunlop Jazz IIIs for example, are nice and red, hardly ever get lost and without the built in obsolescence have been a loss for Dunlop. Anyway I like them a lot. I also use the 1mm version and even the 1.14mm but this one feels a bit too chunky for me and has no discernible flex, which I do like a little of.
