ESP LTD B204SM Natural Satin

At the end of the day, it's all about the sound. This bass has enough big bottom to support any style of music, and enough clean tone to cut through where it needs to. Perfect for small ensemble playing. I would recommend it for any intermediate to advanced player.

A friend of mine bought the 6-string version, and I liked it so much I ordered one. (six strings is 2 strings too many, IMHO - I'm classically trained). I've had my ESP LTD B-204SM for about 2 months now, and I must say it continues to impress. I can get any sound out of this bass that I want, from a mellow groove to a slappy funk. The balance is perfect, the neck is true and workable. The six bolt construction provides excellent sustain. I can get this bass to do things that I would expect of basses costing 2 to 3 times as much. Haven't gigged with it yet, but that's coming this weekend and I know it won't disappoint.

The finish is very good, though satin is not my favorite. The spalted maple is gorgeous. Nothing else in my collection looks like this one. The controls are silent, and it holds its tune very well. The only complaint I have is that the volume knob came off in my hand and I needed to tighten it.
Excellent bass for the money. Like I said above, this instrument plays and sounds like a much more expensive piece. Why pay 8 or 9 hundred?

A lot of bass for price
Anonymous 08.05.2016
Been living with this bass for over a year now. It's been brilliant. Will do all that you need from thump to twang and everything in between. Build quality is good and no issues with reliability so far. Tuning is rock solid and the maple cap raises comment and turns heads. It played straight out of the box, and I haven't touched the set up. It's a bit heavy, well mine is anyway, but it's a small price to pay for such a great sounding piece of kit. If you're looking for a budget "do it all" bass don't overlook this one. Gig it with confidence and ignore the snobby stuck up sticky beaks who look down their noses because it doesn't have a "name" on the headstock. It's easily better than some instruments twice its price.

PURCHASING EXPERIENCE.

This was my first order from Thomann and I didn't really know what to expect. Needn't have worried. Everything arrived within the stated timescale, everything was well packed and arrived in perfect order. No doubt will order from Thomann again.

Great instrument, great sound. Essential, beautyful.

I play bass in a band, we do some hard-core, noise, post rock. His sound is very adaptable to this genre, it can change from deep and sustained to dry and metallic thanks to its 3 bands EQ for 2 active Humbuckers and a tone control, it's quite handy: light, thin neck, adjustable short action (for those who like it), precise tuning mechanisms, sturdy. As i said before, it has just a 3 band EQ, a tone control and a volume, that's it, could be bad if you're one of that persons who loves more personalizable sound from the instrument; it could be olso something good if you like a minimalist reliable instrument and you maybe have pedals for your sound modualation. But that really is the ONLY bad thing that i can say about this product. In conclusion, great purchase for me!
P.S. farther a great sound, just look at it, it's so goodlocking and charming!

what a surprise

Well, sadly I have to admit my former custom made fancy bass was a gentle saying rubbish...
ESP bass looks good and plays even better. I love thin satin non steaky neck and of course the sound it makes!
My strings action ~ 2.0mm at 24th fret and no fret buzz at all.
Now having 5 strings fretless version and 4 strings fretted. And I tell you I need nothing else ... maybe bit more time to enjoy music!!!
