Evh 5150 III 50 W 6L6 Head IV

unlike other amplifiers, the 50W EVH 5150 mk III is designed very differently from its 100W counterpart - being much more compact than its bigger brother... the obvious advantage in handling and weight has always been balanced by a not really trivial issue: shared controls among channel 1/green (clean) and 2/blue (crunch) - that limited the amp to just two usable channels, mainly (but not only) because of the huge volume difference between clean and crunch.

this latest version solved the issue brilliantly with the use of dual coaxial controls for gain and volume - the eq is still shared but it's not a major issue.

so this amp has 3 perfectly usable channels, all selectable via the included footswitch.
- the green channel (clean) can sound very clean or slightly crunchy, depending on the gain settings.
- the blue channel (crunch) goes from a bluesy distortion to full heavy metal - many thrash and death metal players prefer to boost the blue channel with an overdrive rather than using the lead channel, so there's plenty of gain and an aggressive voice.
- the red channel is ridiculously gainy - there's no need EVER to go after 2 o clock - and doesn't really need a boost (but the classic high mid spike of the tube screamer works perfectly with it) because is both heavy and tight. i don't think that anyone really needs to read a description of the 5150 III tone, but it's raw and present, cuts perfectly through any mix... it just sounds right without any need for extensive tweaking.

as i wrote above the green and blue channel have independent controls for gain and volume, but share the same 3band eq.
the red channel has its own controls, there's no master volume but a master control for presence and resonance (the latter is on the back of the amp)
there's a footswitchable fx loop, a midi input, pre and phones outputs, 2 cabinet outputs with a switch to control the impedance.

the only missing feature is a separate eq for the first 2 channels (i don't really need it, but for someone it could be an issue) and i'd have really liked some form of LED lighting inside the case, totally unnecessary, obviously, but it would have looked cool!

ik heb onlangs deze versterker aangeschaft na heel lang sparen. Het is een beste aankoop, maar wel de beste die ik ooit heb gedaan. Deze versterker is in mijn ogen geschikt voor elk genre. De EVH is heel uitgebreid, zeer tweakable en klinkt goed met elke setting.

Het is niet alleen een metal amp, maar ook een uitstekende rock en blues amp (zelfs de cleans zijn verbazingwekkend goed). Op het groene kanaal kan je van fender cleans naar een heerlijke plexi toon gaan met alleen een beetje spelen met de gain.
Het blauwe kanaal is de ultieme rock/metal kanaal. Er zit een goede hoeveelheid gain in en hij behoudt zijn helderheid zelfs met de hoogste gain setting. Ik vind het zelf heerlijk om er een boost voor te zetten zodat het een strakke metal monster wordt.
Het rode kanaal is een ultiem solo kanaal, maar ook leuk voor rhythm.
Het rode kanaal heeft tien keer zo veel gain als nodig is maar dat maakt de sustain juist zo goed. Doordat er zoveel gain op zit is het net chaos, maar de amp behoud nog steeds zijn helderheid.
Pro and cons:
+ zalige tonen op elk kanaal
+ reageert goed op elke aanraking van de knoppen
+ behoud helderheid zelfs met de hoogste gain
+ power amp distortion is heerlijk bij deze amp
+ zeer hoge kwaliteit footswitch
+ de EVH ziet er gewoon heel mooi uit
- kan redelijk wat ruis produceren als je niks speelt maar met een noise gate is dat zo opgelost.

Ich habe mir den EVH 5150 MK 3 50 Watt vor einigen Wochen direkt im Thomann Shop in Burgebach gekauft und muss sagen ich bin rundum zufrieden mit dem Amp.

Bewertung Amp:
Da ich in einer Hardcore Band spiele wollte ich mir einen High Gain Amp zulegen, der meinen Ansprüchen gerecht wird.
Die Leistung von 50 Watt bzw. die Lautstärke in Kombination mit der 2 x 12 Box, hat mich wirklich positiv Überrascht. Man bekommt einen kraftvollen und deutlichen Sound in allen Kanälen.
Völlig ausreichend für Bandproben und live Gigs.
Wenn man sich den Amp genauer ansieht, kann man erkennen, dass dieser wirklich gut verarbeitet ist. Er ist mit einer Art Leder überzogen, der pflegeleicht und an den Ecken durch extra Kappen geschützt ist. Die Potis sind fest angebracht und lassen sich gut bedienen. Durch Metalschienen lässt sich der Amp ganz einfach mit der 2x12 Box verbinden.
Im Paket enthalten waren der Footswitch, ein Netzteil und ein Kabel vom Amp zu Box. Diese sind Qualitativ sehr Hochwertig.
Einen direkten Anschluss für ein Effektgerät findet man auf der Rückseite. Dieses kann man über den Footswitch aktivieren.

Kleines Aber:
Empfehlenswert für diesen Amp ist ein extra Noise Gate, da es beim aufdrehen der Lautstärke im 2. und 3. Kanal zu lauten Störgeräuschen kommen kann (Aufgefallen beim spielen mit meiner Gibson Les Paul Studio).

Fazit: Das Preis- Leistung ? Verhältnis ist wirklich sehr zufriedenstellend. Meiner Meinung nach ist der Amp für Punk und Hardcore Bands gut geeignet. Ebenfalls dazu empfehlen kann ich euch das passende Case, das den Amp durch extra Polsterung super schützt.
