With the PINNEX system (2022), the renowned truss manufacturer Global Truss offers a new and simple way of connecting trusses. The system itself comprises the PINNEX pins and a pair of special disassembly pliers, which are available in two versions - one battery-powered and one hand-operated. The Global Truss PINNEX not only ensures the simplified dismantling of truss constructions, but also significantly improves safety at work. The innovative system is suitable for Global Truss systems F31 to F45, and is also characterised by lower investment costs compared to other connection solutions. The tool shown here is the hand-operated version, which is cheaper and requires less maintenance than its battery-operated counterpart.
Applying the PINNEX system does not cause any impairments regarding the static properties compared to the standard pin, so the bearing load of the respective truss construction will remain fully intact. The construction is still assembled by hammering in the pins with a suitable hammer, but instead of going the standard (and cumbersome) way of knocking out the pins with a hammer during disassembly, the dismantling pliers allow the 76mm long PINNEX pins to be pulled out easily and effortlessly. To do this, the user simply places the pliers directly on the truss and squeezes them together. In this way, truss constructions can be safely dismantled in a short space of time.
In direct comparison to more expensive and usually also more elaborate connector and quick release systems, the PINNEX system from Global Truss means that users only need to replace the already inexpensive standard pins and additionally purchase the corresponding dismantling tool. This has the general advantage of keeping the investment costs for event organisers as low as possible. However, the cost of purchasing the system is not the only one that is surprisingly low: Thanks to the simplified dismantling of truss constructions and the reduced working time outlay for the employees involved, users will find that personnel costs can be considerably reduced, or the available manpower can alternatively be used for other tasks.
Global Truss is a company specialising in the manufacture of aluminium products for event technology and stage construction. Headquartered in the Baden-Württemberg municipality of Karlsbad, near the city of Karlsruhe, the company has grown since its creation in 2000 to become a leading global manufacturer of trusses, with subsidiaries in the USA and Asia. Global Truss started with three different truss systems, but these have since expanded to a range of more than ten. The firm guarantees that the processes of manufacture and testing of their aluminium structures comply at every step with the highest quality and safety standards, from the raw material itself through to the production facility, right down to the individual welder.
Using the Global Truss PINNEX system, in addition to the simplified dismantling of truss constructions, results in some significant advantages in terms of safety at work. The combination of the PINNEX pin and the dismantling pliers considerably reduces noise pollution for the workers during dismantling (compared to dismantling with a hammer, the associated noise level is reduced by about 30dB). What is more, the dismantling pliers feature fall-off protection, which prevents pins from flying around. Instead, users can now safely place the removed PINNEX pins in a prepared container.
