Excellent edition but would be better with an insert
David S. 169 20.07.2016
The lay out is excellent and quite importantly the page turnings are well thought out - although there are also some awkward places. With that in mind
there is also very good spacing of the bars according to how "busy" these are, and the text feels easy to read, in terms of spacing, size (and also darkness of) the notes; also the colour of the page is a pleasing cream. My usual concern about the Henle editions (as opposed e.g. to Barenreiter) is on the cover which is very easily bend, torn or stained. Having said that, a used score usually gets it, well beyond such casual imperfections, yet a slightly more robust cover would be nicer.

In addition the text for the accompaniment has very careful as regards the orchestration, and which instruments are being reduced at every stage. This is quite a good and faithful reduction.

My only complaint about it is that it would be so much better if there were a version with an insert
so that two identical books are not required, just as
happens with accompanied instruments. I have found editions which do have this option; even if Henle does not offer this for its instrumental concerto editions, still it would be good to make it clear in the summary of this particular one that it doesn't.

Finally, and not related with the particular edition, I must gratefully acknowledge the Customer Service at Thomann which was resolved quickly and with minimum back and forth a separate issue wich arose with the dispatch of the book. It makes
a huge difference if you are buying from abroad.
