The Ghoul Screamer overdrive from KHDK - the company founded by Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and sound designer David Karon in 2012 - has long been one of the brand's most popular drive pedals. Now, the company also presents the Ghoul JR, a wicked-sounding pedal with exceptional tonal flexibility. This micro-format pedal features two voice settings and three styles that cover everything from fuzz through to sizzling crunch and creamy overdrive. What is more, the Ghoul JR has twice as much gain on tap as its bigger brother. And it goes without saying that the KHDK Ghoul JR, like all of the brand's other pedals, is hand-built in Paducah, USA.

Two voices and three styles

Alongside the obligatory controls for drive, volume, and tone that are found on virtually all overdrive pedals, the KHDK Ghoul JR also provides two interesting options that vastly expand the pedal's sonic flexibility, in the form of two switches labelled "Voice" and "Style". The "Voice" switch effectively shapes the bass and mid frequencies, while the "Style" switch can be used to select from three different gain settings that range from a transparent clean boost through to juiced-up crunch sounds and all the way to infernal levels of distortion. These features together with the tone and drive controls mean you have a wealth of sonic possibilities at your disposal.

The US company KHDK Electronics was founded in 2012 by Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and sound designer David Karon. The company is based in Paducah/Kentucky and produces effect pedals for guitar and bass. In order to achieve a high standard of quality, these are exclusively handcrafted on an analogue basis by a small team. The range of products is confined to boost, overdrive, and distortion pedals which cover an enormously wide sonic range that goes from warm clean boost through to infernal distortion and are not only intended for metal musicians. Toller Tube Screamer

Der Ghoul Screamer JR ist vielseitiger als der originale TUBESCREAMER von Ibanez ,der Sound gefällt mir besser.
Er macht sich auch gut im clean Kanal.
Von AC/DC bis harten Metal ist mit dem Teil alles drin.
Was mich stört ist aber das starke Rauschen bei hoher Gain
Einstellung oder im "BALLS TO THE WALL" Modus.
Die Potiknöpfe und Kippschalter sind zu dicht beisammen und somit schlecht zu bedienen.
Der Preis ist ebenfalls ein Kritikpunkt.

Fazit: Tolles Gerät mit super Soundmöglichkeiten .
Trotz der Kritikpunkte würde ich es wieder kaufen.

Ottimo overdrive

Parto col dire che è un overdrive, non un distorsore: le recensioni e i video su internet lo presentano come "...il suono dei Metallica, quelli delle Dual/Triple Rectifier negli anni '90, il gain arriva a 11..."...ecco io la Dual ce l'ho e posso garantire che questo pedale non arriva alla complessità e organicità di quel suono, e il gain non arriva a 11 neanche girando tutte le manopole a 360 gradi.
Nel complesso è comunque un ottimo overdrive, forse fra le versioni mini in circolazione potrebbe anche ambire al podio dei migliori (come costruzione e optional sonori presenti in così poco spazio credo abbia pochi rivali).
Il vero punto di forza di questo pedale sono le dimensioni, che essendo veramente molto ridotte fanno in modo di poterlo sistemare su qualunque pedaliera, anche al volo: nel complesso promosso a pieni voti.

la taille est parfaite pour l'intégrer dans un petit board. Je l'utilise comme un tube screamer pour booster ma disto et le volume. Plus transparent.

Beste overdrive

Dit is een kleine mini pedal die makkelijk in je pedal chain past, maar don't judge it by his size... dit is een MONSTER van een pedal en kan echt heel luid worden, goede afwerking en de voice switch is echt een super feature om lekker "thrashy" te gaan. Ook voor andere genres is dit een overdrive die je in je Setup wilt hebben,
Negatief punt is dat de switch knoppen nogal dicht bij de draaiknoppen staan en dus wat moeilijk te bedienen zijn
