TM
A great budget friendly stereo DI
Theodore Miller 30.09.2020
I bought one of these to live with a Pro2c front of house package, Just to always have a simple way of getting background music into the desk without nicking a DN200 off of stage, and for this it works flawlessly!

I will be mainly comparing it to the DN200 as those are the only other stereo di i own, so at one third of the price, the DI22P Starts off stronger.
It was only after purchasing that i realised the 22P is passive instead of active, meaning that you don't need phantom power for it to work, this is not a feature i need now but could well see me out of a pinch one day! The only downside to this is not having those reasuring pair of blue lights to let you know that its deffo the musicians fault we can't hear him.

For inputs the 22p has a pair of rca in, a pair of quarter inch mono ins, and an eighth inch stereo in.
Personally i've only tested the quarter inch ins, but i can see the other two inputs being useful to get out of a pinch.
Compare that to the DN200 which has a pair of rca's, and a pair of xlr/jack combi inputs. So the DN200 allows you to plug full sized xlr's in which is nice, but you lose the 1/8th" input, which once again might sort you out when you forget all your adapter cables, but there's an aux in the van you can nick.

For outputs you only get a pair of XLR balanced outputs on the 22P, lacking any Link/Thru jacks. Again this isnt an issue for most use cases, but id always rather have them and not need them than the other way around.

One of the big downfalls of the 22P in my opinion is the lack of 'Split' button, it's also missing the 'sum' feature of the DN200 but i'm not sure i've ever actually used that button so that is less of an L imo

The 22P Features a -15 pad, but the dB reduction is not listed on the box itself, a minor inconvenience, it just reads 'Pad' on the box.
In comparison the DN200 clearly reads '-20 dB PAD' With a helpful red light to alert you of this fact.

It also comes fully equipped with not one, but TWO Earth Lift switches! Mental right?
Haven't the foggiest what the second one is for, and i dare not switch both of them at the same time for fear of breaking the matrix, but at least now you can earth lift from either side of this tiny DI box.

All in all a great box for the price, but i wouldn't populate a whole stage with them. Build quality is good, but leaves a lot to be desired when compared to its bigger brother, the DN200

It is a very good price/performance product. It is perfect for finishing your work in a healthy way. It is a product that you can use with peace of mind for both stereo signals (pickup, keyboard, etc.) and mono signals such as guitar bass.

Contre les bruits parasites
apzori 02.06.2021
