The M-Audio Keystation 88 MK3 is a straightforward entry-level 88-key MIDI keyboard designed for focused music making. Despite its very affordable price, it delivers an entire full-length piano-style keyboard with velocity sensitivity, along with pitch and modulation wheels – plus arrow keys, transport controls, play, stop and record buttons, and a volume control that all make working with a DAW far more comfortable. Otherwise, besides inputs for sustain and expression pedals, the features are intentionally kept to a minimum, placing the spotlight firmly on playing feel and the expressive, exapnsive 88-key layout.

A full five octaves

The Keystation's keys are velocity-sensitive but unweighted, with spring-based resistance that produces a playing feel distinct from hammer action, which is entirely expected in this price range. A clear advantage of the design is the low overall weight, as the Keystation weighs under 7kg, so it's easy to transport when travelling. It connects directly to a computer via USB, or to synthesizers and other MIDI-compatible devices through a standard MIDI jack, offering flexible integration into different environments. With one of Apple's Camera Connection Kits, it can also be hooked up to any iOS device. When powered via USB, no additional cables are needed, keeping the setup clean, simple, and portable.

The greatest budget MIDI keyboard you can get

In this price range, there is not a single alternative to this beauty. The casing does feel somewhat cheap but the keys themselves are great.
Besides the main parts, the mod and pitch wheel, DAW navigation buttons, intuitive MIDI controls, sustain and expression pedal ports, 5-pin MIDI connector and a power plug are great features. Included software is great, it's not a unuseful marketing gimmick.
This keyboard outperforms even more expensive options and the amount of control you get with it while playing is great.

I've wanted to renew my Keystation MK1 that I was using for a long time and expected that the MK3 to be at least the same.

Unfortunately this was a big disappointment. They keys are poorly designed with a short travel, weird spring back and with considerable noise that I cannot ignore.

I understand that the price is low for an 88 keys MIDI controller, but I have expected to be at least as good as the MK1. This one was a definitely no no for me and had to return it.
