Hybrid birch/walnut snare

The Shadow Snare comes from Mapex's renowned Black Panther series and features a seven-layer shell construction made from a combination of birch and walnut, which creates a dark timbre full of character. As players would expect from this manufacturer, the Shadow Snare boasts impeccable craftsmanship, and it is also equipped with high-quality hardware, including the proven Sonic Saver hoops, In-Line Locking B-Lugs, and precise Cylinder Drive throw-off. The Shadow Snare additionally comes equipped with Remo Ambassador heads from the factory.

Professional features

The Black Panther Shadow Snare from Mapex measures 14" x 6.5" and comes with SONIClear bearing edges (45° batter side and 35° snare side), which, with their rounded outer edge, offer an increased skin contact surface compared to normal edges. All of the metal fixtures, such as the In-Line Locking B-Lugs and the Cylinder Drive lift-off, are mounted on rubber plates, a simple method that prevents direct contact with the shell in favour of an unhindered development of resonance. In terms of sound, the combination of birch and walnut ensures a dark, punchy basic sound character that will easily cut through the mix.

A real eye-catcher

With the Black Panther Shadow Snare, Taiwanese manufacturer Mapex offers a wooden snare of strong character in a hybrid construction, which cuts a fine figure not only in terms of sound but also in terms of looks. While the shell in its natural gloss finish and the chrome hardware harmonise perfectly with each other in terms of colour, the unusual shape of the In-Line Locking B-Lugs really spices up the look. The other technical features also leave nothing to be desired, so that even experienced players will not miss anything. This makes the Shadow Snare the right choice for advanced and professional drummers who want to purchase a top-class, hybrid wood model.

About Mapex

The Mapex brand was founded by KHS Musical Instruments and was launched in Taiwan in 1989. Over the years, Mapex has become one of the leading manufacturers of drum sets and accessories. Since then, Mapex has made an impact internationally with outstanding instruments and technical innovations. Examples such as the Black Panther series and the SONIClear technologies have set completely new market standards in terms of the durability and high-quality construction of the company’s products. Such well-known drummers as Chris Adler, Russ Miller, and Josh Devine put their trust in the quality Mapex stands for.

Open for everything

Behind the slim 6.85mm birch/walnut shell of the Mapex 14" x 6.5" Shadow is a versatile snare with a dark timbre, controlled, full shell tone, and excellent carpet response. The SONIClear bearing edges help players to easily tune the instrument and increase the tonal range, so the snare will produce an appealing sound in every tuning. Added to this is the high-quality Cylinder Drive throw-off, which allows precise adjustment of the carpet tension to match the head tuning. With its high level of musicality, the Shadow Snare is an absolute all-round talent that can be used in a wide variety of styles.

Killer snare
ProgDrummer 04.07.2022
This snare is truly an all-rounder. It sounds good at low to high tuning and has a very distinct dark sound. It is also surprisingly sensitive given it is a deep wood snare so playing ghost notes is a pleasure.

Love at first side

Ui Ui wo soll ich da anfangen ?
Am besten beim Auspacken erster Karton (Thomann) ok 2. Karton (Mapex)
Also Fazit ...Volle Punktezahl
