On the first impression, the Meinl daf looks great and very sober with the frame in dark colour wookd and the head in creamy beige.
However, the playing proved to be otherwise and two major points are standing out:
1. Head is too loose in my opinion, which has the effect of producing grave "muffled" sounds. Also, personally, it is not comfortable to play on a loose surface - I am used to tar drums which are tuned and tunable, and therefore the contact on a non-stretched surface is very unusual.
2. Thumb notch is not deep enough for me, making it difficult for the fingers of the left hand to hit the head.
In conclusion, the Meinl daf is no way near what I expect a daf drum to be. If plenty of imagination, fun to play out of its original purpose, e.g. with accessories or playing around with the ring snares.
