A budget-friendly piccolo snare

With its shell diameter of 14" and a shell depth of only 3.5", the affordable Millenium Piccolo Steel Snare undeniably belongs in the “piccolo” category. Featuring a 1mm steel shell with an eye-catching chrome finish and triple-flanged 1.6mm rims, the Millenium Piccolo Steel Snare always delivers a powerful, crisp sound regardless of the user's preferred tuning. The craftsmanship as well as the hardware stand out thanks to their solid quality, with the wide sonic palette and effortless tunability being particularly noteworthy.

Millenium Piccolo Snare strainer

Precise throw-off

A total of 24 square-head screws spread over twelve threaded lugs is more than enough to tighten and precisely tune the included heads on the 14" steel shell of the Millenium Piccolo Steel Snare. The mounted strainer, which is adjustable on one side, works reliably in any given situation and ensures that the snare carpet can always be adjusted precisely. The fact that the lever of the throw-off securely snaps into the upper position is a big plus, allowing drummers to fully focus on their playing without worrying about the snare carpet coming loose during their performance.

Good craftsmanship at a bargain price

The sound of the Millenium Piccolo Steel Snare is not the only impeccable aspect of this instrument: Solid workmanship ensures an absolutely round drum shell, a flawless shell seam, triple-flanged rims without any sharp edges, and a snare bed that is level with the snare carpet. The only potentially limiting factor are the included drumheads, so users who want to uncover the full sonic potential of this snare should not hesitate to grab some higher-quality heads from a brand manufacturer. Anyone who is looking for a reliable snare drum that won't break the bank will thus definitely find what they are looking for in the Millenium Piccolo Steel Snare.

About Millenium

Millenium is one of Thomann's in-house brands and has been an integral part of the store’s range since 1995. More than 800 products – from drums and percussion through to accessories such as microphone stands, racks, and recording workstations – bear the Millenium label. These products are made by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands. Since they are imported directly from the factory without any further distributors or sales companies, they can be sold at particularly attractive prices. Incidentally, one in every four Thomann customers has already purchased at least one Millenium product.

Small drum, big range

Thanks to its twelve threaded lugs and a total of 24 square-head screws, the Millenium Piccolo Steel Snare can be tuned evenly and accurately, and the desired sound achieved without undue effort. Whether users opt for a higher or lower tuning, they will always get a well-rounded sound with an impressive range that cuts through the mix easily – something one wouldn't necessarily expect from a drum with a relatively shallow shell depth. For this reason, the Millenium Piccolo Steel Snare will cut a fine figure as both a side snare and a main snare.

Wow sound from a budget snare
Anonymous 14.07.2016
This piccolo snare is incredible value for money.
I was surprised at the quality of the fittings and even the skins when I took it out of the box.

It feels robust and has a reassuring weight (unless you like your snare as light as a feather, then you won't be quite as happy).

The online sound is very good and reflects the actual acoustic sound of this drum. Well Done Thomann!

The snare tightens/slackens to a very satisfactory level for me delivering either a "sloppy slap" of a snare sound, or a "tight crack" cutting through everything else on stage. This is my first piccolo snare and I was a little anxious as to whether I would really like it, but when comparing it to my 5" depth snare, it is not hugely different in overall pitch/tone - I guess it comes down to the general tuning to some extent.

I will change the top skin for an Evans to gain some tone but for an out-of-the-box batter head I was fairly pleased.

I am genuinely happy with this snare and happily recommend to anyone considering adding a piccolo to their set-up.

M
Great drum for a great price!
Murdock_Music 20.01.2018
I replaced the stock snare on my Mapex Tornado with this. This is an AMAZING snare drum for 55 euro! It is very nice and crisp. It would have sounded good with a big of moongel on the stock head. However, I replaced the stock head with an Evans Black Hydraulic head and put on a Gibralter 42 strand snare wire. It has a super crisp cracking sound with no snare buzz. For a more jazzy tone the stock snare wire would suit just fine. I have played alot of picollo snares and this is as good as any of them. I had a Tama picollo snare that wasn't half as good as this. The only picollo I played that sounded better than this was a pearl picollo with a floating head. That drum cost 8 x the price as this little beauty!

F
Surprising producy by Millenium
FraeuleinBoe 01.03.2016
In the meanwhile I tested some product of the company Millenium. To tell the truth: I do not really like this brand at all. I tested a lot of drum cymbal stands that were not really stable and other things I did not really like. But the Millenium 14" x 3,5" Piccolo Steel Snare was really surprising me. For such a low price you get a quite proper sounding snare drum. Of course it is not a great masterpiece but in relation to its price this snare drum is really good. With different pressures etc. you can create different sounds. So if you need a low priced snare drum: I recommend this one.

K
Small drum, big sound!
Kārlis 12.03.2019
I wanted to have a picolo type side snare. Because of the good price and good reviews I just went for it.
Just with a little bit of tunning the sound was amazing right out of the box.
In no time this snare became my main snare while I put my ludwig supralite ( also an amazing snare ) to the side.

Versatile sound. Amazing for rock music. Good for jazz, hip-hop, r&b, funk. Can be loud as hell with little effort ;) Great ghost note sound with high tunning.

only one minus: the trow-off sometimes doesn't work all the way, so I have to use my hands to get the snares off. But this is barely a problem for such a great sound and price!
Highly recommend this one!!!
