Mojotone BV-25M 12" 16 Ohms Speaker

No speaker is perfect, but if you love the Greenback sound, you ought to give this a try. Classic rock crunch tones sound colorful and detailed.

Side by side, they're slightly less bright than current production Greenbacks, but they don't sound dark or muffled - nothing on the level of a Creamback and the EQ of the speaker seems to help accentuate the tone of the note in the upper mid-range and reduce the "fizz" you can get with some M magnet speakers.

I can't claim to have tried it with every amp in the world with it, but with my Marshalls, I'm impressed.

First of all I'm a huge speaker nerd, and have spent way too much time and money on my speaker journey... But it's when you get speakers like the BV-25M, put a 57 in front of it and listen back to the recording, you realize that it's all worth it! Man oh man what a sound, it's hard to believe how "finished" it sounds with just a single 57.

Compared to Celestion's medium magnet offerings which I have always found lackluster (with the exception of a few vintage Blackbacks), the Mojotone doesn't have as much as a hint of harshness, and is silky smooth without being toothless or dark. It has a certain "polish" to it that gives off a little more of a modern vibe, not as dark and veiled as a Vintage 30 but there is something distinctively Vintage 30-like in the response and how even and smooth it is. I'm not saying it does vintage tones poorly, but it is more of an idealized take on the Greenback tone than any actual Greenback I've ever heard at least. Which, IMO, is not a bad thing at all, but to some people maybe it is.

If you've struggled with fatiguing and harsh upper mids from Celestions (all the ones I've tried have more aggressive upper mids than this one), this is the best "de-harshifier" I've ever heard. If I ever need more G12M style speakers in the future I will buy these again, again and then once more.

I took off one star for quality, because the cable lug plate is not very rugged. If you don't solder but use cable lugs, it will move back and forth when you attach the wires. But as long as you're careful I don't see why this should yield any practical issues, just something to be aware of.

Edit: After some more time with it I realised it wasn't as great as I thought, it's not a bad speaker but it has a very rounded upper mid range with not much bite or forwardness. If you have a really bright amp it might work out great, but if it's more balanced or on the darker side I would not recommend it.

Den Lautsprecher gibt es in USA schon seit einigen Jahren, aber hier bei uns wurde er bisher nicht angeboten. Johann aus DK kennt die alten Speaker recht gut und testet sehr viel. Vor ein paar Wochen war er sehr begeistert vom BV25M und Thomann hat sehr gut reagiert, indem die Mojo Speakerserie ins Sortiment genommen wurde. Top !
Der Speaker klingt neu, direkt aus der Schachtel, bereits sehr gut. Nach einigen Std Betrieb noch freier, feiner und detailreicher.
Ich habe einige alte „richtige“ Greenbacks und der G12M Pulsonic ist mein klarer Favorit. Kein anderer Lautsprecher kommt da mit.
Auch der BV25M klingt nicht genau so. Im direkten Vergleich liegt immer noch der Pulsonic vorne, aber - das ist schon ganz schön gut, was da so aus dem Mojo rauskommt!
Die meisten Greenback Klons (eigentlich alle) haben recht scharfe, aggressive Höhen und viele Leute glauben, dass sei typisch für einen Greenback. Das ist aber so garnicht der Fall. Pulsonic Höhen sind zwar präsent, aber keinesfalls scharf oder aggressiv, sondern sehr mild und sahnig. Mit echten Greenbacks kann man Höhen und Presence am Amp weit aufdrehen, ohne das es kratzig wird. Das geht mit den Reissues und Klons nicht, da kratzt es viel früher. Beim notwendigen Runterregeln von Presence und Trebble wird dann auch der Obertonbereich beschnitten und der Klang ist nicht mehr ganz offen und frei.
Und jetzt kommt da der Mojo daher und hat viel, viel bessere obere Mitten und Höhen als die Kollegen. Nicht ganz Pulsonic, aber viel näher dran, als die anderen.
Tiefmitten, Honk, etc …. alles da. Das können die anderen Greenback Klons aber auch idR recht gut.
Der Bassbereich ist beim BV25M etwas voller und straffer, als beim Pulsonic Original. Wie das in einer 4x12“ rüberkommt, kann ich nicht sagen.
An meiner originalen 4x12“ mag ich das leicht schmierige im Bassbereich eher gerne. In einer 2x12“ sind die Pulsonic auch klasse, aber wenn sie alleine in einer 1x12“ werkeln, wünschte ich mir die Bässe oft etwas stabiler und voller. Der Mojo hat dieses bisschen mehr, was zumindest in einer 1x12“ bestens passt.
Der Mojo BV25M ist ein richtig guterLautsprecher, noch dazu für relativ kleines Geld. Verarbeitung ist ok, nicht ganz so gut, wie bei UK Celestions, Fane, EV.
Klar, wie immer, Geschmacksache. Aber antesten lohnt auf jeden Fall, wenn man Greenbacks mag.
