MXR 1974 Vintage Phase 90

Phaser Effect

The MXR Vintage Phase 90 comes in the classic script logo design. This is how Eddie Van Halen "spiced up" his legendary lead sound, especially on the early records. This can clearly be heard in his parade solo on "eruption". In contrast to the popular block logo phaser, the original circuit was used here, and so the phaser sounds just like Eddie, Jimmy Page, and David Gilmour (All I can say is: "Shine On ...").

There is, of course, only one control with which the speed of the phasing can be adjusted, everything else is set so that a really pleasant, never too loud effect can be achieved. Phasers just like the classics - beam me up Scotty!

Superb reissue!
Pp933 14.10.2013
Beautiful sounding phase pedal. Very basic controls - just one knob - but that's all you need. Used by many of the greats, including Jimmy Page. This pedal is essential if you want to cover virtually anything by Thin Lizzy - it's all over their albums!

A minor gripe is the absence of a DC jack. I know it's a vintage reissue, & it was absent on the original, but Dunlop could have used a little common sense here, as unlike their fuzz faces, the Phase 90 sounds equally as good with a power supply as with a battery.

The mother phaser

Only speed can be adjusted. No activity LED. Underwelming features.
So what's to like about this pedal? Well, its sound of course :-) I really like this phaser pedal after having owned many others. It seems to add some very subtle grit and character as well. I use it both on guitar and keyboards.

Q
It just sounds amazing
Quilloton 29.09.2021
I love the simplicity and sound of the pedal. It is a bit annoying that you have to be sure it's not on when you stop playing, as there's no led indicator. It's par for the course though and the vintage vibe and sound is great!

a
Too muche noise, by far...
alt3 16.06.2019
Very, very disappointed by the sound out of this pedal; very noisy, the switch is even more noisy when activated or de-activated with big and brutal noise. Can't believe this for a pedal at a such price. The pedal has been tested with very Strymon Ojai and other quality power supplies, cables, etc. Instant return. Impossible this to appreciate the phaser effect itself.
