Monitoring de luxe

The KH 150 from Neumann is a powerful bi-amplified studio monitor with clear mids and precise impulse reproduction. This is made possible by DSP-controlled electronics which allow for a deeper bass response as well as sophisticated crossovers that avoid the phase distortion caused by analogue filters. The linear frequency response can be adjusted to the acoustic environment using the three-band EQ or Neumann's MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment software for Mac and PC. When compared with other monitors in the same price category, the KH150, which lies between the KH 120 and the KH 310 in the Neumann range, features impressive digital connectivity options and Ethernet capability. In particularly complex networks, the Neumann KH 150 AES67 model offers full compatibility with various broadcast standards such as ST 2110, ST 2022-7 redundancy, and RAVENNA, as well as different network protocols. Numerous mounting accessories are available for the KH 150, which is also available in white.

Reference-class performance

The KH 150's reference-class performance is underpinned by a 6.5" woofer in a bass reflex cabinet that provides a stunning low-end response and a high maximum SPL with undiminished clarity even at the full output of 320W. Audio signals are fed either in an analogue format into an XLR socket or digitally into the S/PDIF input. The cable runs can be up to 100m for analogue and 200m for digital sound inputs with the ground lift eliminating ground loops between equipment. If the KH 150 is used with digital sound sources, the signal can be daisy-chained with a stereo sound system, for example. While Neumann's Mathematically Modelled Dispersion waveguide guarantees a wide sweet spot and minimises desk reflections, the three-band EQ in conjunction with input level and output gain controls allow for further room calibration. And those looking for even more control can use Neumann's Automatic Monitor Alignment MA 1 software, which is available separately.

Low-end punch and plenty of detail

With the KH 150, both professionals and ambitious home studio producers can create a monitoring environment that will fulfil even sophisticated requirements. The input level of the monitor, which is suitable for any style of music, can be lowered if a rich bass response and a high sound pressure level are required in the mix, for example in EDM productions. Producers of radio plays and Classical music as well as podcasters can rely on the KH 150 to reproduce the finest sound nuances, and since the monitor can be combined with other KH models, it fits perfectly into immersive surround sound setups for gaming as well as video and film production.

About Neumann

Georg Neumann GmbH was founded in Berlin in 1928 - and is certainly one of the most famous brands of microphones in the world. However, this is not the company's only sphere of activity. For many years, the versatile inventor and pioneer Georg Neumann was also involved with vinyl record cutting machines and the development of rechargeable batteries. The technology he developed is still the basis for this now crucial and rapidly expanding market. What is more, for many years the company built highly personalised sound control systems for broadcast studios/theatres and concert halls, and for several years also studio monitors. In 1991, Neumann became part of the Sennheiser group of companies, and in 1999 was the first German company to receive the Technical Grammy for their overall technical achievements.

In the studio

For use in studio applications, the KH 150 can be mounted on the horizontally and vertically tiltable Neumann LH 32 wall mount, the LH 46 ceiling mount, or the LH 29 TV spigot. The recommended listening distance is between 1 and 2.5 metres. With the optionally available Automatic Monitor Alignment Neumann MA 1 software, room acoustics can be easily calibrated and optimised, and unlike conventional correction software, alignment data are stored and processed within the DSP-powered loudspeakers themselves, while the included measuring microphone analyses the acoustic environment.

Clarity till the bottom
MMichalis 26.03.2023
I was mixing with an old pair of Genelec 8040. My room is suboptimal (quite small, rather overtreated but still with substantial spikes in the low area), so I also used ARC2&3 and then “Reference 4” for calibration. With this system (especially with “Reference 4”) the situation became quite decent, in fact everything sounded good. However my mixes were poorly translated in other systems. Especially in hi end loudspeakers (my friend’s ATC 50 for example),there was an obvious mess in the low area and an overall lack of clarity. I decided to trust KH150 and MA1. At last I have a clear “view” of what is happening below 80-100Hz and indeed this makes a big difference in the overall mix. Clarity across the whole spectrum is also enhanced. My first impression was that the sound in the studio is not that “pleasant” any more, but the truth is that this applies for my previous mixes, not the reference tracks :-). Seriously now, my new mixes translate really better in other systems, which is the whole point I think. Finally I would like to mention that I focus in the area of folk/ world music, mixing natural instruments (or quality samples of natural instruments), with some electric elements (which has nothing to do with the EDM that Neumann mentions in their KH150 presentation and is rather unfair for these speakers).

Simply amazing, studio monitors that are trustworthy.
dv445 26.04.2023
I went over by budget with these speakers, but I have to say it was all worth it. The sound coming out from them has no coloration and it's pure. The bass is deep, clean and controlled and the mids/highs are very accurate with no dips or spikes in frequency. Simply what you are hearing is the exact sound that was recorded. Their dynamic range and transients are superb, you can instantly tell if a sound needs compression for example. Also they have great stereo imaging and sound very wide. If you are a mixing engineer these speakers will make your life easier.

They also look quite great and feel very robust.

I think these are the best studio monitors you can get in this price range. Highly recommend.

New favourite now!

I really love the sound of this little guys. Very natural. Good stereo imaging. Great details. It's really personal, but they sound just how I want monitors to sound. And they hit really low even without the sub.
I haven't tried room correction yet, but will do soon.

KH 150, die bessere KH 310?
siehorst 16.03.2023
