A solution if you want to gig vintage gear
David655 17.05.2013
Let's deal with the basics first. This is a well-made piece of kit - solid and sturdy as you would expect of Pearl. Easy enough to fit. You have to remove two tension rods from the top and bottom of the drum and then re-assemble with the Opti-mount in place. There isn't much space between the back of the Opti-mount and the shell, so it is not likely that it could be mounted over an exsiting tom mount. You will either have to remove the existing tom mount or put the optimount somewhere else on the shell (it could go anywhere).

There is a fair amount of adjustment but don't rely on Pearl's own guidance as to size. I bought two optimounts for a 1960s Slingerland kit. The Optimount designed to fit 7-8" deep toms fitted the 12 x 8 perfectly. But the larger Optimount (the one designed for 9-10" deep toms) was just a little too big for the 13 X 9 and is a bit loose. It would be helpful if Pearl gave clearer technical specifications (i.e. the precise adjustment range) to avoid this. I will at some point buy another smaller Optimount for the 13" tom.

Don't expect a radical change to the sound. I noticed no change in sustain (neither an increase nor decrease). Do expect the flexibity and strength of modern hardware. And the wonderful thing is that you get to mount vintage toms using modern hardware without any drilling. So you can keep your vintage gear in original condition while getting most of the benefits of modern hardware. Works perfectly for me. I can now adjust the Slingerland toms exactly as I want them and have no concerns over anything breaking or coming loose in the middle of a performance.

The best Tom Mounting System I know
DB5002 17.11.2015
Ordered this Optimount Holder to upgrade an old Sonor Force 2000 Tom. The old mounting system killed the sustain of my toms noticably. Now the sound is more what I want it to be. (Of course, more sustain doesn't always equal "better" sound. It always depends on what is required in a certain situation.)
Also, dividing the stress on the material (that results from mounting the drum) to four diferent points - two near the top, two near the bottom of the drum - seems to be a good idea.
Of course, the drum's freedom to move is not as big as with other systems that grab the hoops. But I think that is also more a pro than a con.
And I like the look of these holders.
They only match Pearl tom arms I think. But those are really good as well in my opinion. Try the TH900, good price and quality.
I have not yet tried the newer aluminum Optimounts but my guess would be these older steel ones work just as well and I will stick to these because of the price.
I can recommend the Optimount system.

very good

I upgraded my hanging tom from the Rim mounted SST mount that came with my kit to the Pearl Optimount. It's very stable and I like how it makes contact with the drum on both the top and bottom lugs. The tom no longer bounces as much as it used to do with the old mount and it gives me piece of mind on the night of the gig knowing it's a solid piece of gear that wont fail.

PEARL OPT0910 OPTIMOUNT
Craig2575 24.03.2015
These are easily the best mount out there, but not the prettiest! maybe the chrome ones counter that? Easy to fit and no maintenance, improve stability no end and improve resonance, fitted in place of ISS on a vision kit, vast improvement!
