Use:
Good for making your own miniature XLR extension cables for AKG headphones or other equipment that uses this type of connector.
Pros:
The RT3 MC-B is of good quality and is solidly constructed. The plug comes with two different sizes of plastic strain relief that wraps around the cable and tightens as you screw the connector together (maximum cable diameter: 6 mm). Easy to solder as long as you've got the proper tools.
Cons:
It might be the fault of those thinner headphone/thin microphone cables or i might be that the strain relief is a little bit weak or a combination of the two... but I've found that using about a 5 cm piece of heat shrinkable tubing around the end of the cable, from where the strain relief encapsulates the cable, really improves the long term durability. The Cordial CPK 220 (diameter ~4.7 mm) can accommodate some sturdy high voltage heat shrinkable tubing and is what I would recommend.
Conclusion:
This connector is great and affordable product of high value and if care is taken when assembling your DIY cable you will end up with a quality cable that will last for years! There's no problem in re-using these connectors if the cable somehow gets damaged. They're good for solder and desoldering multiple times.

very sturdy connector

very solid conector.
because of it's size it is a bit fiddely to solder but very doable.
comes with tho different cable clamping inserts to fit your cable's thickness.
but beware as yourr cables shouldn't be to thick, otherwise you wil not be able to slide your connector over it.

A Great Alternative to a Chassis Plug
David4019 20.01.2014
I bought these to join a miniature mic lead to a standard size one, inside a blimp.
(A bit like Rycotes Conn Box) they are the usual high standard you expect from Neutrik.
Gold plated Pins are readily soldered. A warning though, use a very small tipped iron or you will make a pigs ear of the joints! There are two strain relief bushes supplied, so you get the right size for the cable you are useing. They represent good value for money, as they are a fraction of the cost from other sources. All in all a good buy.

Very good quality but note the mini size and therefore the requirement for small cable
