I have a 16" birch shell floor tom and I find this head has made it very easy to tune. The Renaissance coating produces a darker tone with more overtone control. I use a coated Ambassador for the reso head to warm the sound up even more.
The drum holds its tuning well. I can even tune it up to use as an orchestral tenor drum.
I find the head responsive and easy to play with a wide dynamic range with brushes, rods, and sticks.
