M
A brilliant sound for my Jazz bass
McKind 19.10.2024
On my jazz bass I like super low action. I play soft touch, but in case I dug a little harder, I love the rattle that the low action gives (no, it's not fret buzz, that comes with a delay and only on certain frets; this comes along with the note played and stops an instant later). These strings make that rattle extremely brilliant and pleasant. It gives some fresh air to my vintage sound.
They last long (although the brilliance fades earlier) and they are very pleasant to the touch, which is why I prefer nickel-coated steel to pure steel strings.
The gauge is choice, however I can play any style with these strings, and the overall tension is more balanced than with e.g., 45-105.
The value for money is good, and could be very good if you buy it when discounted (I think most bass player like 105 gauge for the E string).
The length of the strings is perfect for a fender-like headstock (keys all on one side); the silk covers most of the top side and could withstand weeks of tuning without being destroyed, but there's no silk at the bridge side, allowing the strings to be top-loaded without the problem of having the silk on the saddle, as it muffles the highs and reduces the sustain. Oh, they're easy to bend! All in all, highly recommended especially to those who like a balanced tension across the neck.
