The Waterphone is played by striking the sticks with mallets, plucking them with the hand or stroking them with a bow. The pitch can be changed by swinging and tilting the body. The unique sound of the Waterphone is reminiscent of orca whale songs, space-like spherical sounds, not of this world. The Waterphone is often used as a percussion instrument in film music from the horror genre, but also in general in scenes that need an increased level of percussive tension.
Note: Fill approx. 1 litre of water through the neck into the body. More water leads to lower tones, less water to higher tones. The best thing is just to try it out!
