Shubb C1

Seems like a really cool capo. For the past few years I've utterly destroyed few G7 Nashville-type capos so this mechanism looks like a real improvement as you don't have to rely on a spring which can wear off in time. Tension is regulated as well so putting it on 2nd fret on Telecaster will work same if you put it on 9th fret on a baseball bat. The only downside is that the rubber sleeve doesn't look so robust as G7. I've never got to replace them on these. On the other hand this one is getting some string marks pretty fast. You can get sleeve replacement for a few bucks but I'd rather like not have to worry about it. Although the it's small and cute it is pretty tough and I wouldn't worry dropping it on a hard floor.

I bought the Shubb C1 for use with both electric and accoustic guitars and so far as the electric guitar is concerned, I love the design, it has a good quality feel and it performs well.

However, I have one criticism, certainly concerning the website description (..if not the design), which states that it is good for electric/accoustic guitar.

In my view it is only good for accoustic guitars with the more slender profile necks and the description should be changed accordingly. While of course there can be considerable variation in neck cross section, I have an electro-accoustic with a neck that is basically as per classical guitar and the rubber sleeve which presses the strings is exactly the same length as the distance across all six strings (50mm), which does NOT work. I feel slightly let down and find it most annoying when there's absolutely no reason why the metal component wouldn't allow the rubber sleeve to be just a couple of mm longer, which would then adequately fulfill both functions. In my view it is only suitable for a string span of ideally 46mm or 47mm at most. Why can't this be stated?

For me, this is the only capo that really makes sense for most purposes. Reason being, you can adjust the tension that the capo applies onto the strings with an easy-ish turn of the gear, which is just a fantastic feature.

The build quality is quite good, and I'm confident that it won't just snap in my hands like one of my first cheap capos did, an event which made me appreciate the value that higher quality gear can provide. It mainly loses points for being a bit confusing to operate at first, the fact that the thumb screw could be a little larger and easier to turn, and above 12th fret access on electric guitars seems impossible whereas as other capos can achieve this.

I have used an earlier version of this for donkey's years. An excellent and reasonably discreet capo. But the rubber part is showing its age so I thought perhaps it was time to replace it.

The new version features a slimmer profile and a fancy roller wheel assembly, replacing the old simple screw with a hard plastic cap, for adjusting the size. It presents a more refined appearance.

However, this new roller wheel is bulky and does not permit the capo to be opened very wide, therefore limiting its use on thicker necks and higher up regular necks because it then exerts too much pressure and affects tuning.

If your guitar has a slim neck and you never capo above the 3rd or 4th fret, it will provide you with many years of reliable use.

This is a very good capo, can be adjusted to fit any neck comfortably so you're not pulling strings out of tune etc. Works very well on a mandolin as the capo is small and doesn't take up much room. The only problem is the small rubber piece that sits on the neck keeps falling off, i have went through 2 of these capos and both times the small rubber bit has come off. It can be stuck back on with an apoxy glue that works with metal etc, but it's irritating. It is being used in a gigging band though so perhaps it is getting abused slightly. It would get 5 stars if this didn't happen. Still a great capo all the same!
