Easy operation, studio-quality sound

The Swissonic Audio 1 is a "two-in/two-out" audio interface with a sample rate of 192kHz and a 24-bit dynamic resolution that supports USB 2.0 connectivity and delivers studio-quality results. The first input features an XLR socket for microphones, which also has switchable 48V phantom power to allow condenser microphones to be used. The second input in turn features a 6.35mm jack socket for line and instrument signals, and this input's sensitivity can be adjusted using the adjacent Hi-Z button. Each channel is equipped with a dedicated input gain control and peak LED indicator to allow the input level to be correctly adjusted, and the output level can be controlled using the large master volume control. A 6.3mm headphone output with its own volume control is also provided for monitoring via headphones, and the rear panel additionally features two 6.3mm line outputs for monitor speakers as well as a 3.5mm input for connecting a smartphone or tablet computer.

Three recording modes and loopback

The Swissonic Audio 1 is connected to a PC or laptop via USB-B connector and gives the user a choice of three recording modes, which can be selected using the "Rec Source" switch on the rear of the interface. The user can thus record the signals coming in via one or both channels, a mix of channel input and DAW playback, or an audio stream from a computer programme (e.g. gaming audio) using the loopback setting. Provided that a USB 2.0 interface is available, the interface is compatible with PCs running Windows 7 or newer (32 and 64-bit systems are both suitable) as well as Mac systems. The Swissonic Audio 1 is USB powered and therefore does not require a separate power adapter. A suitable USB cable is of course included in the scope of delivery, however.

For beginners on a budget

The Swissonic Audio 1 gives beginners an audio interface with all of the functions they need as they take their first steps into the world of recording and streaming, including direct monitoring and loopback recording. And since this interface is primarily aimed at beginners, it has been designed to provide maximum ease of use (and avoid the risk of confusion). The Audio 1 is thus ideal for users who don't necessarily need to record two microphone or instrument signals simultaneously as well as for streaming basic interview situations, which also makes it a good first purchase for users on a limited budget who are looking to get into streaming or podcasting. The Swissonic Audio 1 is an equally interesting proposition for singer-songwriters who want to record guitar and vocals simultaneously and use their DAW to edit the recordings).

About Swissonic

Launched in 1998, Swissonic is an in-house brand operated by Thomann. Swissonic's range of electronic and digital devices are built to precise specifications by well-known manufacturers and are thus available at very favourable prices via direct marketing without distributors. Swissonic mainly focuses on devices for use in conjunction with a computer. The product range therefore includes interfaces, webcams, monitoring speakers, MIDI keyboards, and routers but also sound converters and rack-mounted electronic equipment. Swissonic thus provides an extensive wide range of affordable equipment for computer and home studio-based sound processing.

For music demos, playback, and interviews

When a singer-songwriter wants to make a recording, all they need to do is connect a condenser microphone to the first input on the Swissonic Audio 1 and then switch on the phantom power, then plug their electroacoustic guitar into the second channel, activate the Hi-Z function, then finally set the interface to "CH 1-2" mode, and they are ready to record the signals going to both channels simultaneously. Users can also record themselves playing/singing along to a backing track from their computer - or karaoke sessions - using the "Mix" recording mode. And last but not least, users can set the Audio 1 to "Loopback" mode if they wish to integrate the audio signal from their computer software into the recording.

So far so great!
SLTY 12.01.2023
I was looking for a simple audio interface to control my studio monitors and eventually connect a microphone. I didn't need much more than that. Any added features would be a nice bonus. Of course in the budget range every google search and youtube video pointed me to the focusrite solo. I then checked if there was anything out there that matched the solo for specs but possibly at a lower price point, since I am on a strict budget.

Then the Audio 1 and 2 popped up on Thomann's website. At first I thought it was too good to be true. Same specs as the solo but half the price?! I thought there must be something missing... Well to say I am pleasantly surprised is an understatement.

First, this thing is built like a tank! Solid construction, nice feeling knobs, small enough to fit on my desk and robust enough to throw in my backpack. The sound is perfectly fine. There's no feedback or hiss etc. It does the exact job I want it to do. It's also plug and play! on Windows! No drivers to install or anything.

My guess as to why it's priced so competitively:
1. it's an introductory price to entice new buyers to take a chance (like me)
2. No ads or marketing outside of Thomann's website. (also costs money)
3. No drivers. meaning no development and maintenance of software (could matter to you. I don't mind.)
4. probably some other business related stuff

None of the above points take away from the quality of the device itself.
Overall, I'm happy with the interface as it does what I need it to do. Should anything change I'll update this review.

Conclusion: if you're like me and looking for an audio interface to primarily control the volume of your monitors with solid sound quality, this is the one to get.

Good choice for the money
Grizan 20.03.2023
For the first time I ordered a usb sound card and was not disappointed.
I usually plug my guitar into a amp and play for fun, but recently I decided to try recording my stuff.
Realizing that I needed a device for amateur recording, the first thing I looked at was a focusrite solo. Then I saw this device in similar ones and a spark slipped between us)
I am connecting the interface to a laptop, so I needed an additional connector to power it if there was not enough power from the laptop.
I like separate volume controls for headphones and monitors, software included, good sound quality for home recording.
Swissonic Audio 1 fully meets my requirements, I'm happy!

Great first experience
LindenBlossom1608 07.09.2024
I used to record instruments with microphone but was encouraged to try picking them up directly. So I got my condensed microphone, PU ukulele and had to get some king of a simple audio interface.
This one serves all my needs. Not too much going on for a beginner with audio technology but just enough to get beautiful sound. It improved my music experience by 200% and I’m very happy I got it.
Would absolutely recommend for folks who want something simple and trusty to record both instrument and vocals at the same time.

J
Best in its price range
John F 17.04.2023
After seeing many audio interfaces i n the 50 to 90 euro price range I decided to buy this one, and I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

The build quality is surprisingly good for its price (solid metal all around). The buttons and knobs feel like they could take a beating and the cable ports are very well made.

I use it mainly as a bass preamp, going in digitally into my virtual amp and it works great. The flaw I have found with it so far is some noise that is barely noticeable, it also could be the cable or the fact that I have many electrical devices near it.

Overall 9/10.
