Double bass, double fun

Thomann 44/5str 3/4 Europe Double Bass

There are many arguments in favour of laminated or semi-solid upright basses, but the fun REALLY starts when the bass is made from solid woods. A fair assumption has always been that, if it is below a certain price point, a bass of this kind must have come from China - but as its name suggests, the Thomann 44/5str 3/4 Europe Double Bass proves that this does not have to be true. This five-string bass combines the classic ingredients in true purist tradition: Spruce, maple, and ebony. And best of all, it is available at an astonishingly affordable price.

Thomann 3/4 Double Bass Bridge

True to tradition

The Thomann 44/5str 3/4 Europe Double Bass is constructed in the popular and widely-used 3/4 size and has a scale length of 105cm, which is slightly longer than usual and gives a little more openness to the low notes. It features a solid spruce top, while the back and sides are made from solid maple and the fingerboard from ebony. To ensure reliable tuning, the headstock is adorned with Tyrolean-style machine heads that feature gears mounted on a brass plate, and the bass comes strung with a set of high-quality Pirastro Flexocor Deluxe strings (including a low B string) as standard. A setup at Thomann's stringed instrument workshop can also be carried out upon request.

Solid woods for a dynamic sound

Basses made from solid woods typically deliver a more dynamic and expressive sound, and thanks to its affordable price, the Thomann 44/5str 3/4 Europe Double Bass makes these attributes available to both beginners and up-and-coming players in the fields of Classical, Pop, Jazz, and Folk music. Players can of course further optimise the sound of the bass by stringing it with the appropriate specialist strings for their respective musical style, though it should be noted that the low B string in particular sounds best when played with a bow.

About Thomann string instruments

Thomann-brand instruments, which are exclusively built by renowned manufacturers, now constitute a large part of Thomann’s product range alongside numerous big-name brands. With unbeatable price-performance ratios, Thomann string instruments are the obvious first choice for students and beginners – and others too. The technical features and uncompromising sound quality they offer are usually reserved for much more expensive instruments found in the professional market segment.

Ideal for learning

The Thomann 44/5str 3/4 Europe Double Bass is at home wherever an expressive tone and a low B string are needed - including lessons, small orchestras, and Jazz clubs. However, the amateur sector still has its demands too, and this bass's comparatively low price makes it equally ideal for school orchestras, who can thus make the qualities of a five-string bass made from solid woods available to their students. For a five-string model, this bass is relatively easy to handle, but it will still require a sufficiently large and appropriately trained left hand.

Schlägt seinen kleinen Bruder Thomann 22 3/4 Europe Double Bass um Längen
Hornpepe 08.01.2019
