I bought this as a kind of project. I didn’t expect too much for a solid Acacia Uke at this price but I was generally pleased. The selection of wood does have some shaded patches but I didn’t pay Kanilea prices so it’s fair. The binding is well done and looks good. Setup was very good, frets well dressed and it has excellent intonation, amazing sustain and is not too ‘boomy’. I normally like Aquila strings but these ones fitted didn’t suit this Uke. The particularly thick headstock (22mm) has a dark veneer which in my case was chipped, it’s a bit bland looking too. Saddle and nut appear to be plastic so I will replace them with better quality ones and set up the Uke exactly how I like it. I also have replaced the plastic fret dots with Abalone ones.
The machine heads are really cheap and very nasty, one of the ferrules rattled in its hole! They will be replaced as soon as possible but the thickness of the headstock limits choice of replacement to certain guitar sets. I needed to order strap buttons too.
I did have to consider that my adaptations may negate the warranty.
So in summary, with a little work and outlay you can have a much much nicer Ukulele - if you are not afraid of doing some work yourself. If you can’t, then it’s still okay for the money.
