Thomann 11 3/4 Europe Slim Line Bass

This is a real find. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a cheap bass because the price is low, it's a fantastic instrument that plays really well and looks lovely.

First of all, yes it;s a laminate, but the grain on the top is straight and the flame in the sides and back is lovely to look at. The finish is really good too, smooth and even gloss.

The neck has a semi-matte, natural finish on the back, and the one complaint I have is the fingerboard join was a bit rough to the touch.

While the bass is slim-bodied it has terrific tone with no dead spots of wolf tones, it plays easily (beautifully set up by Thomann, thank you!) and looks beautiful.

Previously playing an electric upright bass, I was somewhat intimidated by my teachers acoustic bass - feeling it was too large & heavy for me to handle. It was a bit of a leap of faith mail-ordering this from another country with no real option to return. But I am delighted with it. To my trainee ear the sound is full, it keeps tune well and is much easier to manoeuvre than larger instruments.

Ich habe den Slim Line Kontrabass nun seit etwa einer Woche und ich bin begeistert. Ich habe mich für diese schmale Version entschieden, da ich den Bass auch eher häufig transportieren werde und Kontrabässe an sich ja recht sperrig sind. Der Slimline wirkt elegant und ist vom Gewicht her sehr angenehm.

Zunächst war ich unsicher, ob die Lautstärke auch an 3/4 Kontrabässe mit normalem Korpus herankommt, da ich den Bass hauptsächlich umverstärkt im Bandkontext nutzen werde. Nach einer äußerst kompetenten telefonischen Beratung bei Thomann, habe ich mich dennoch für diesen Bass entschieden. Im Vergleich zu einem halbmassiven 3/4 Kontrabass eines Freundes würde ich die Lautstärke sogar als noch präsenter einschätzen. Die Bespielbarkeit ist ebenfalls sehr gut, deshalb gerade auch für Anfänger geeignet. Die Verarbeitung wirkt hochwertig. Der Service der Thomann Werkstatt ist ebenfalls ausgezeichnet. Es wird gewünschte Seitenhöhe eingestellt, ebenso wie ein mitbestellter Tonabnehmer eingepasst. Das Aufstellen des Steges ist nach dem Transport per Spedition auch sehr schnell machbar. Nach meinen momentanen Einschätzungen würde ich den Bass wieder kaufen!
