Thon Mixercase Midas M 32R

I got this in a bundle with my Midas M32R Live. I have another small Thon case of which I’m very happy, but this one, while adequate, inspires less confidence.

The case fits the mixer perfectly, and the M32R seems to be well enough protected. You can use the mixer while it’s in the bottom half of the case, while keeping enough room for airflow (ventilation) and you can keep the power cable connected while you shut the case. There’s even room for some extra bits and bobs in the case. However, I would not feel safe using this case for heavy or daily touring.

I use my mixer only infrequently, and it doesn’t need to be transported too much. This case is perfect for that. But I wouldn’t trust this case for more intense touring. The foam protection around the mixer is a bit thin. On the output panel side, only one rail and two upper corner cushions in the back hold the weight of the mixer when the box is vertical Also on the front (fader) side the mixer is only held in place by two small foam cutouts. A bit more foam would have made me a bit more confident.

the 7mm thick plywood also seems a bit too weak to withstand heavy touring. The large top and bottom plate bend slightly when you put a medium force or weight on it. It also scratches easily. When I transport my mixer, I need to be a careful what I put on top of the case.

The aluminium rails are sturdy, as are the handles. But the rivets used to connect them to the wood are just punctured through the wood (instead of through a drilled hole), and on the back (the inside), it looks a bit messy, with splinters and bits of wooden shavings on the inside of the case. I had to file them off with a bit of sandpaper and then tape some gaffa over the insides to make sure I wouldn’t get a splinter in the hustle and bustle of a build down, and to stop from wood dust entering the case during transport.

To conclude, this case is adequate for my use of the mixer, cause it doesn’t travel that much. But if I had to move it daily, or use it for intensive touring, I would get a better and sturdier case, with more foam, thicker plywood and better finish.

great case- no dog box but its a good thing, keeps it a light console- plenty of space for stashing a router and some power cable. room underneath the desk is essentially for keep the console cool- nice touch- but could easily transport an X-touch too as a fader wing. nothing to complain out. There is a wobble if console is out in wrong. Preamps to sky-faders to floor- handles as they should if carried vertically.
