Powerful, dynamic light

The standout feature of the Varytec Hero Spot 90 is its outstanding performance given the price at which it is available, since a 90W LED is an extremely rare find among spots in this price range. Designed for small and medium-sized locations, this moving head is part of the Hero Spot series, which is available with LEDs of various power ratings in black and white housings. The spot, with a narrow beam angle and comparatively wide tilt range, is particularly suitable for gobo projections and light accents, which can be configured in a variety of ways courtesy of numerous features including the three-facet prism and motorised focus.

Extensive features

The light beam is emitted from the Varytec Hero Spot 90 at an angle of 15°, with the spotlight head rotating horizontally and vertically around the room by up to 540° and a maximum of 230°, respectively, while the motorised focus, a three-facet prism, a gobo wheel with eight static gobos, and a second one with six rotatable gobos offer a multitude of effects to create the perfect party atmosphere. The power connections are designed as power twist sockets, and the DMX signal is received and transmitted via a three-pin connector, which also addresses the operating options: In addition to the buttons below the display and the DMX option, the Varytec Hero Spot 90 can also be operated using the optional remote control function.

Varytec Hero Spot 90 – Detail

Operation made easy

Party organisers and disco operators can attach the Varytec Hero Spot 90 securely to a truss using the mounting bracket provided and use the colour wheel, which offers seven different colours plus white, to its full effect. The moving light is the perfect accompaniment for bands on tour, who can simply place the easily portable unit weighing just 7.2kg on the stage floor, while the power twist sockets with slip-proof cables will ensure a stable power supply. Owners of music clubs have six or 16 DMX channels at their fingertips, enabling them to create a range of effects - from a spotlight on the lead vocalist to geometrical shapes circling through the darkness. Private users opting for particularly simple operation, however, can achieve the same effects using the optional remote control function.

About Varytec

Over the years, Thomann has greatly enriched its already extensive range of lighting products with its in-house brand Varytec. In addition to LED spotlights, theatre lighting, and moving lights, Varytec offers an arsenal of matching accessories. Tripods, cables, power distributors, and all kinds of other components are, like the lighting solutions themselves, manufactured by well-known names in the field. The firm’s direct sales approach, which eliminates intermediate retailers, ensures that all of these products are nevertheless attractively priced. Varytec's range comprises well over 200 items, which will illuminate everything from home-streamer setups to photo studios, theatres, and concert halls.

Lighting up the party

The Varytec Hero Spot 90 also features a sound-to-light mode and makes an interesting choice for small parties when used in combination with the compatible infrared remote control device, the Varytec Hero Remote Spot 90. This is easily achieved by placing one or two moving lights on the floor and, provided the remote control has visual contact with the front of the base, the LEDs can start to work their magic at the push of a button. Those who invest in a hazer will also find that they can replicate the effects used at large shows by making light beams visible in the room and showcasing the nine automatic programmes, strobe effects, or fast-paced colour gradients for optimum impact.

I bought these to replace my old Spot 250 XT moving heads which always were prone to over heating and are really heavy to today's standards. I almost only do Totems and i confirmed in the instruction manual that this unit had 270º of Tilt. It isn't the case and i think Thomann should change their advertised specs as the mislead costumers. Because of this, these are better positioned upside down that standing.

Pros
Compact and light weight
Equal or more light output than a 250 discharge lamp

Cons

The rotating gobos don't spin in their center axys, specially in fast rotation seems that they are moving up and down which is really annoying

The Tilt angle is not near the 270º advertised, i took the time to measure and its about 220º which is not enough for totem position

The Prism 3 facet are too distant apart from one to another. This make the rotating prism effect not as nice as if they were overlapping.

Conclusion

This is a great value for money, compact, decently built quality for its price and really easy to work with. Please don't consider this for totem use.

This were the first movingheads i bought. I use them on a truss, this works perfect.

- gobo's aren't perfect

For beginners who never used a moving fixture, I would defenitly recommend it. It easy to use and for it's size it is very bright. Gobo's aren't perfect but it's almost not noticeable.

Best in its class

Bought a couple of these to hang in a small nightclub and these do the job very well for that. Light output is what you expect for a 90w LED, noise level is good and the plasic does not feel cheap nor does the overall build quality. Perfect size and a good price, packed with functions. Will buy more in the future!

Great value!

Plenty of light for even the biggest rooms, 4 of these can cover up to 500 people easily.
Built solid for the price, and backed by Thomann's 3-year warranty it's a no-brainer.
Couple of limitations, like at slower speeds the gobos do shake a little but, but you aren't spending $1000 piece, these can be easily excused.
