Spectacular YAMAHA HS7 monitors!
Graham George 16.08.2018
I needed a pair of well recommended monitors for my small home studio, recording guitar and vocals. The previous appraisals here on Thomann were pretty much all good, so I went along with all those that were happy with these speakers!

I wasn't disappointed at all, in fact they are far better than I had expected.

I am using them to monitor my own music, and especially for mixing and mastering tracks. The room I have is poor for sound quality, despite being small and with acoustic treatment, but being near-field monitors, these are ideal for close approximation to my consul desk.

(So much so, that when I step away from the desk, I can hear the dissonance of the room, but when positioned correctly in front of them, the sound is perfect.)

I was surprised not only at the quality, but that they give little or no vibration. I have them mounted on a heavy wooden table, and when using my iMac computer speakers for a rough mix before using the HS7's for the final mix and master, the table vibrates through my hands when resting on the consul. With the HS7's there is no vibration whatsoever!

Pros: The overall sound is well balanced and the details of the *mid-range are superb. The top end is crisp and clean, and the bottom end as much as I need for my style, (jazz fusion). *The mid-range has fantastic detailing, much of which I now realise that I have never heard.
I liked that they were available in white too, as they match some of the studio decor, and I prefer not to have everything black.

Cons: May seem a little pricey for a home studio, but worth every penny. Other than that, at this time I have none.

Summary:
Ideal monitors for a home studio.
Great all round sound quality and definition.
Small to medium room use, where correct positioning diminishes poor sound to room quality.

Absolutely delighted with them!

Crisp clear sound!
Stargate Max 22.02.2018
I use them (two) for my small home studio, and I love the white design instead of more common black. This 6.5" size seems like the best bet for a smaller studio -- not too small size (thinner sound) and not too big and heavy (8"). I compensated for the lack of true bass with a separate sub anyway.

The sound quality is superb! I can hear all the small nuances and the whole stereo field so clearly. Ordinary home audio systems start to suck big time after you hear these speakers.

I don't really know any real cons other than their relatively heavy weight, but what else would you expect from a high end studio speaker?
I would prefer the power-on light a bit dimmer or in blue color (the Yamaha logo below). It's a bit too bright, especially in the dark.

To me it has all the features I need -- the power button, the volume knob. It may lack some special features for someone else, though.

I'll give it 5 stars as these two speakers are exactly what I wanted!

Excellent product for the money, recommended purchase
Carnivore 25.08.2017
Sound is accurate and flat. What?s coming in is mirrored to what you?ll hear. By definition, the perfect near field monitoring.

I use these to produce and mix Industrial Metal, with loads of guitars and booming bass freq, which the Yamahas seems to handle easily.

Volume grants comfortable headroom and both the variety of in/out connections and the overall quality if the construction is reasonable for this price range.

Compared to market alternatives, I?m coming from Samson Resolve Series and a significant improvement was noted from the get go. MAudio and KrK, which I also used before in my projects with the same DAW and hardware, did not perform any better than these.

The white finish is elegant and seems durable.

Up to date, I could not happier.

Excellent monitor speakers
DiceDJ 03.06.2022
I have a pair of KRK Rokit RP8 which I use to DJ with. I bought these Yamaha's because of the flat sound I need for DJ production. I use these in combination with a Focusrite 2i4.

However, because I'm so used to these speakers now I am much more inclined to use these for my DJ sessions too. They portray a very fair sound spectrum. The KRK's can make you tired when you listed to them too much (because of the V-shaped sound signature), but these Yamaha's just keep you energized throughout.

I have also experimented using these for smaller parties (max 50 people) in combination with 1 or 2 active subwoofers, but have noticed that they fall short in that regard. Of course, these are not made for such events.

However, a producer friend of mine also has these Yamaha's in 10" format. Those speakers just blew me away in how much they can handle. They give a balanced sound output, combined with loudness and punchy bass. I might also have to replace my KRK's with the 10" Yamaha's now for my DJ sessions.

I sometimes have listening sessions where I connect the Yamaha's to my Spotify and listen to new songs. This is also a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.

All in all very satisfied with the speakers. I can recommend them for both music production and DJ sessions. You will not be dissatisfied.
