You get what you pay for, or so the old saying goes but, this short scale Yamaha guitar is an absolute gem and more than (just) good value for money. Returning to playing after a gap of over 40 years I've quickly realised that I'm only comfortable with shorter scale instruments - I have smaller hands and struggle to make the 'stretch - and the 54cm scale of the JR-1 works wonderfully for me. Lightweight but very solidly built this guitar would suit many adult players ie it is not just for juniors. I play mostly blues finger picking and I'm well satisfied with the depth and range of tone. Nicely constructed and mine came with the black bridge pins which are a nice feature. I paid £122 which includes a decent gig bag plus £8 delivery to the UK - the third guitar I've had from Thomann in two years -and this has made an old(er) man very happy. My first ever Yamaha and I'm in no doubt that this is a 'quality' instrument.

As usual the Yamaha quality is more than you can expect from this instrument. Bought it for one of my students. It has a great feel and neck. Very suitable for children and also for using it as a traveler guitar. Nice string height and the fretwork is very good. No dead spots, no buzz. A great 3/4 beginner's guitar.

great little guitar for 8yo to 12yo, and if you like a parlour sized guitar, any age. Crisp tone and stays in tune with good quality tuning pegs.the high mids should mellow as the top ages, good value
