Affordable, compact, good

Yamaha P-45 B digital piano, front view

The Yamaha P-45 provides the perfect entry into the world of portable pianos from Yamaha, offering a full digital piano experience in a compact and budget-friendly package. In addition to an 88-key, hammer action keyboard, the P-45 digital piano also offers ten carefully sampled tones, integrated effects, and a broad range of practical functions. Weighing just 11.5kg, the Yamaha P-45 is not only an ideal entry-level instrument for domestic practice, but also a portable companion for all pianists looking for a compact instrument that can be used on the move for performances and rehearsals.

All-round package for beginners

The P-45 is not overloaded with functions that are often superfluous in practice, but focuses instead on key features including an authentic piano sound, a good keyboard, and a number of practical extras such as an integrated metronome. The GHS (Graded Hammer Standard) keyboard featuring graduated weighting imitates the touch sensitivity of a real grand piano, resulting in keys that feel slightly heavier in the bass range than in the higher registers. The sounds are based on AWM stereo sampling and can be varied using four different reverb types to provide the optimum performance experience. With its Dual and Layer modes and a Duo mode, the P-45 also enables the user to mix two sounds together or to split the keyboard into two sections.

Versatility at an attractive price

As the least expensive member of the proven Yamaha P-series, the P-45 is not only a highly suitable instrument for budget-conscious beginners looking for a substantially equipped digital piano at an attractive price, but also lends itself as a second mobile instrument for performances, rehearsals, and other musical activities outside of the home thanks to its compact design and low carrying weight. In both cases, the user will benefit from the remarkably simple operation enabled by the instrument’s features, which are focused entirely on the key functions of a digital piano and are the qualities that have been appreciated by beginners and advanced users of the P-series for many years.

About Yamaha

For decades, Yamaha has been one of the world’s best-known manufacturers of musical instruments and audio technology. The Japanese company’s long history began at the end of the 19th century with the harmonium. The product range has constantly expanded since then, which has made Yamaha one of the few manufacturers today to offer almost the entire range of existing musical instruments: From upright and grand pianos to guitars, wind instruments, and bowed string instruments and from drums and percussion to electronic keyboards and synthesizers. Yamaha is also a major force in the field of audio engineering as a manufacturer of mixing consoles, amplifiers, PA systems, and more. Yamaha's guiding principle is to combine traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology.

Connections on the rear side of the Yamaha P-45 B

Even more fun with compatible apps

The Yamaha P-45 can not only be connected to a computer via USB, but also to a smartphone or tablet using a suitable adapter (available separately), allowing the digital piano to be used in conjunction with a wide range of MIDI-compatible apps. Examples include the Piano Diary and My Music Recorder apps, which are available from Yamaha free of charge and enable users to document the progress made in practice sessions and record their own performance. For added benefit, the digital piano is also compatible with third-party apps, providing users with a variety of opportunities to practise, compose, and develop their musical skills and keep piano-playing an exciting experience!

Really Enjoying this Piano and its my first
White Ship Caused the Anarchy 06.02.2022
The P-45 is a great beginner Piano is not only great as a beginner model due to its affordability, but mainly due to the fact that it focuses on the stuff that matters and that has mileage. It feels great, the build quality is top-notch and the features including the sounds and connectivity are all you will really need as a beginner for a long time. For those sitting on the fence and would rather buy nice than buy twice, this is the perfect keyboard for you.

My only gripe would be the fact that the included pedal is a bit cheap feeling but all in all its sturdy and I think will easily not be broken by a couple of sharp tugs or drops.

Yamaha P45
Dan1991 12.08.2017
I bought this keyboard as an introduction to piano. I wanted an instrument I could practice silently at home and with wide range of adjustable volume and headphone option, this keyboard is perfect for that.

Yamaha have a well deserved reputation in electronic instruments and it is easy to see why, even on their budget instruments like the P45. The plastics are thick, not flimsy and the keyboard has generously proportioned ergonomics.

The sound is really quite good through headphones, though the onboard speakers leave a little to be desired. You could be forgiven for mistaking it for a real piano, with your eyes closed and headphones on.

It has a reasonable range of features and sounds, and it's not covered in buttons and knobs like so many others. There is a handy and intuitive function button that allows you to change your sound type, which you can select by using the black and white keys. The black keys are matt, as opposed to gloss, which means fingerprints are not so much of a worry.

I'm impressed by the realism of the grand piano sounds, and if this keyboard was to fail I would certainly buy another.

I
One of the best entry level products
IamMichael 02.09.2019
I just love this piano so much. I live in an apartment which not that big, so the fact that the Yamaha P45 is portable is great. Its size makes it quite easy to carry it around, compared to other digital pianos that is, keep in mind that it is not a laptop. The keys are great for someone who is looking for the experience a normal piano offers, but can't afford one. You also have to keep in mind that it is an entry level product, so of course you could find better, but not for this money. I am more than satisfied with the 10 voices it offers. I play in a worship band in church, so for those of you who are looking for more options when it comes to voices or sounds, I suggest using a program on your laptop, like ProTools or Ableton Live, it will help in this regard. One of the downsides I found are the speakers which are not that great, but a lot of times I like to use a good pair of headphones, and that's a game changer. The other downside is the sustain pedal it comes with, which is quite bad. You can definitely use it and will get used to it, but my suggestion is to upgrade.
All in all it is a great digital piano that you will have a ton of fun with and will not let you down. And if you're looking for something better, make sure you got a larger budget, because there are many pianos more expensive than this that don't deliver the quality this one does.

Pure joy
mariopereira 22.02.2019
This was bought for a friend and recommended by another friend that is a piano teacher, my friend is a guitar player and wanted to start playing the piano for a long time now.

As a complete piano beginner so far he's loving it, the keys are very smooth and although he's kind of overwhelmed (because well, there's a lot of keys in there) he's loving it so far.

The construction itself feels super solid as you would expect for a Yahama product, the built-in speakers of the piano are no awesome but they seem good for built-in, but with headphones plugged in it's another story, it sounds so much better!

This should be an absolute joy to play with external speakers, but I'd be guessing here.

The sustain pedal that comes with it feels cheap and doesn't feel very smooth so we were recommended by the friend that is a piano teacher to buy the Yamaha FC 4A along with the piano and so we did.

Please keep in mind the dimensions of the piano because it is not small, the box that arrived by the post was almost higher than me, and I'm 6 foot.
