Yamaha YRS-20 BG from aesthetic point looks really nice, nevertheless, the product was made from plastic. Some of the musicians tend to play on wood instruments, which obviously can give them different tonal characteristics of the sounds. I've made a couple of tests using plastic YRS-20 compare to a wooden recorder.
Yamaha recorder sounds good, a bit tight on some registers and sometimes discoloration occurs in tune. Compare this one to recorder made from wood the huge advantage of a wooden recorder is tending to stay in tune and preserving natural sounding notes. It is taking a bit more effort to learn on a plastic one to get exact the same sound of the wooden recorder, also taking into consideration certain techniques of performance.
On higher register wooden sounds much better, kept natural timbre, nevertheless serious disadvantage is a price for wooden recorder
a really good piece of wood recorder would be really expensive.
The argument which one sounds or play better is pretty obvious, however, for beginners, it would be the best option for the reasonable price.
