Good strings, but I found better
Raymond588 18.08.2018
I bought a Harley Benton Beat-bass FRETLESS a short time ago and as I have fitted D?addario ECB81?s on all my other basses, it seemed logical to buy and fit a set of these on my new fretless.

This bass did actually come fitted with Harley Benton FLATWOUND strings and when I tried it out, I thought how great they sounded, but I was convinced the D?addarios were going to be a lot better, especially at 46 Euros a set.

Anyway, I played my new bass for a couple of weeks with the original strings on and was extremely pleased with it, but then I decided to fit on my new D?addario?s. Oh Dear. I did not notice any difference, in fact, the H.B. strings gave the bass a little more Mwah.
I must admit I was a little disappointed to have had to pay the extra 46 Euros for strings that did not come up to the standard of the much cheaper Thomann strings. I am now thinking of refitting the original Thomann strings and keeping the ECB81M?s as spares.

I have no problem with D?addario strings. I like them a lot. But in this case the Harley Benton?s were better

Flatwound strings can change completely your vision of the bass, with this afterword I can start this review.

I mounted the strings on my Fender Jazz
and when I will change these strings, I will change just for another pack of the same but the long scale.Indeed I did the mistake to not paying attention to this detail(medium scale, shorter of my fretboard) and so the initial part of the string is a little thinner and I had to ask to my husband to adapt it and set it in a way that I can play it anyway.
The sound is really amazing and get better and better with time.

Pro: Really slow aging, you can keep these strings for years and they are still warm and tunable and you can play and perform with satisfation

Quality very good

The feeling under beides the hands

Cons:
In the first phase you feel that the strings are hard to press but it's only temporary, as much as you play the sensation disappear in a month or so

Brilliant, but BE CAREFUL!!

I ordered the ECB81Ms from Thomann, not realising they are the medium scale version of the long scale ECB81s.

I wasted £20 buying these, but I got the long scale set and they do sound and feel fantastic. So it's not the strings fault, it's mine, and I certainly won't be making the same mistake again after essentially dropping £40 on one set of strings?
