I really know next to nothing about reed instruments. In fact the Xaphoon is my first wind instrument (if we discount being tortured with the tin whistle in school - I certainly do!).
So I read some forums about Xaphoon playing and more experienced heads recommended 1.5s as the reed the Xaphoon comes with can be a little difficult for complete beginners to get a sound from (their words).
On that advice I searched Thomann for 1.5 reeds and saw these DAddarios. Going simply from years of using DAddario guitar strings I knew I was getting good quality and I have not been disappointed.
I began practicing trying to make sound with the Xaphoon and after a few days of trying to varying results, the original reed broke down the middle.
As I said I know nothing about wind instruments so Im not sure if this was supposed to happen, if it was user error (most likely) or if the included reed was brittle - I blame the user. But it was a relief to have the DAddario reeds as replacements and I am still on my 1st of the set of three.
These could be the worst reeds in the world, I dont have the experience to tell but I do know that I expected quality and reliability from DAddario solely based on years of using their strings - and I have not been disappointed.
Xaphoon practice continues (slowly) - thank you DAddario!

The leaves are well made and respond well. For me personally, they are a bit too "soft" for long-term playing, but they are good if you want to start playing with a more open mouthpiece or generally if you have a bit of difficulty with the embouchure. The best thing to do here is to try it out. If you have problems with 2 or 2 1/2 sheets, just test it, you can't go wrong.
