I ordered this with Dr Ducks Ax Wax which says it lubricates strings too. I wasnt sure it would so I got this as back up to replace a nearly dead Fast Fret. Did I need it as a lube? Not really, Ax Wax does what it says on the tin. Did I need it as a cleaner? Yes. Does it work? Yes.
The Ax Wax does lubricate well, maybe better than XLR8 but I'm not sure it cleans. Im thinking wax over dirt is sealing in dirt. A good slide down the strings puts a good few dirty lines on the pad. The pad is a bigger diameter than others Ive used so its literally two wipes up & down to cover the full fretboard and needs no wiping with a cloth after.
The good thing about this stuff is the ease of use. Its a no brainer, take off the lid, quick run up and down the strings and play. No messing around with one or two strings at a time and no buffing after. Its a one hit job. It does not come with a cloth like some others but you dont need one. Daddario say use it before & after playing, its that simple i actually do as Im told and after four days a guitar thats ready for a string change seems a lot brighter.
Ill use this between waxings. Once the strings start to dry out XLR8 will be used. I've tried it on Harley Benton, Daddario, Ernie ball, Fender & bronze acoustic strings and it cleans & lubes them all with zero effort.
Pros:
Large Ø pad does the neck in two wipes.
Brings out the dirt well.
Lubricates without feeling greasy or wet.
No need to buff after use.
The tin is a perfect size for storing picks after its used.
Cons:
Maybe it wont last as long as others which have the chamber at the back but then again its two wipes not six so may even its self out out.
Ill buy this again and use it until Dr Duck brings out a similar product then Ill have to decide.

More preventative than anything, and a lot greasier than youd expect

This product is 10x better than GHS FastFret at preventing build up of finger grease on your strings, as well as being a very good lubricant. A small amount of grease creates an insanely disproportional amount of lubrication as well. Do not be fooled by the size of the pad, I've used mine daily for a little more than a month and its still as effective at lubricating my strings as on the first day.
However, it does not really get grime off your strings that well
