DBX 234 Xs

Purchased to try "fake" bi-amping in a home audiophile system, using an old (retired) Adcom GFA-555 for bass and the current amp, Parasound A21, for midrange and treble. Speakers at the €5.000 price point. The dBX was cheap but a few reviews appeared to suggest its usability with very good equipment.

First impression was full satisfaction and I really imagined audio quality had improved. After exactly two years a channel died (bad XLR connector soldering in the dBX quickly fixed by Thomann). During repair I reverted to Parasound only (now bi-wired). It took only seconds to realize audio quality had clearly improved. The refined TUBE preamp had lost many of its qualities being fed through the filter. The initial impression - lasting for two years - had been due to buyer bias: wishing to hear an improvement and never bothering with a more careful comparison.

Still a good unit for decent stereo systems with no deep 3D stage and or subtle articulation to lose in the first place.

Actually, the dBX is still in use, but now as a volume knob. The mid/treble amp is fed directly from the pre-amp's OUTPUT 1 and OUTPUT 2 goes to the filter controlling only the bass amp (filter set on the full +6 dB gain due to Adcom being unbalanced).

The dBX faultlessly handles the low bass 35-200 Hz and enables fine turning of the bass (using the gain knob) to better suit the room characteristics (room treated with bass traps but still needing a little decrease of bass). Bass control is also useful with audio sources where bass badly missing, such as the occasional vinyl LP with too long playing time (bass slightly decreased by the record cutter).

In conclusion: Good purchase although the filter ended up serving only as a primitive bass control. But it also makes the home system look boyishly cool.

Un autre possibilité : sub mono et satelites en stereo .Perso j'ai utiliser tout les confic décrit si dessus ( pour le 4 voie il faut en rajouter un deuxieme filte active dbx234xs pour diffuser en stereo).
Le rapport qualité prix est correct et le rendu sonor tout a fait convenable . il n y a pas de buzz ou clics lorsque on actionne les boutons ou lorsque on ne diffuse pas de musique. je suis satisfait de mon achat
et pour des personnes qui ne veulent pas passer sur du processeur digitale ou de budget un peu plus serre ce cross over dbx est ce qui vous faut .

Ich habe die Aktive Frequenzweiche „DBX 234 Xs“ vor ca. 4 Jahren erstanden und bereue davon keine Minute.

Das Geräte bietet ein unglaubliches Preis-Leistungsverhältnis und ist mit allen -für die Praxis relevanten Features- ausgestattet (siehe Produktbeschreibung). Ein Blick auf die interne Hardware offenbart eine durchdachten sauberen, sehr professionellen Aufbau. Verwendet wurden hochwertige, rausch- und verzerrungsarme [Texas-Instuments/Burr-Brown]-OP‘s. Diese können nur noch durch deutlich teurere Komponenten getoppt werden. Diese verbauten Komponenten würden auch einen doppelt oder dreifach so teuren Gerät immer noch gut zu Gesicht stehen.

Die mechanische Verarbeitung ist Grundsolide und dürfte die Jahre überdauern. Die soliden Verstellknöpfe sind recht klein und vermutlich eher für ein einmaliges justieren der Pegel und Frequenzen vorgesehen.

Ich habe die DBX 234 Xs etwas zweckentfremdet, um damit sehr große 3-Wege-High-End-Hifi-Standboxen(120L) aktiv zu betreiben. Seitdem ich die passiven Frequenzweichen aus dem Signalweg entfernt habe und durch

eine Digital-Vorentzerrung (= Behringer DEQ2496 + USB DAC mit XLR-Ausgängen) und
drei Stereo-Voll-Verstärker

ersetzt habe, offenbart sich mir eine gänzlich neue Hifi-Dimension:


Für meine Verhältnisse überragende Feinzeichung, keine Verfärbungen und praktisch nicht wahrnehmbares Rauschen, sehr neutral. Saubere Auftrennung der Frequenzbereiche, mit einhergehender höher Belastbarkeit des Gesamtsystems. Einfache selbsterklärende Bedienung, weite Einstellbereiche, hohe Flexibilität bei der Konfiguration (2/3/4 Wege). ...

Volle Punktzahl.
Ich habe noch eine weitere DBX 234 Xs gekauft. Es muss nicht immer ein DSP sein.
